Today, Disney Cruise Line celebrates 20 Magical Years with the 20th anniversary of the Disney Magic’s Maiden Voyage from Port Canaveral. Thanks to our friends the MJ & Mike Kovall, we have a treasure trove of early Disney Cruise Line documents and handouts that we will be sharing. To celebrate the Disney Magic’s 20th anniversary, I thought it would be fitting to first share the Personal Navigators from her maiden voyage.
The navigators in 1998 were in fact personal. Guests were provided with the following instructional handout to guide them through the handouts.
Personal Navigators, and other handouts from the 4-Night Bahamian Cruise on Disney Magic – Itinerary A (1998). The Disney Magic set sail from Port Canaveral on July 30, 1998. During this cruise, the ship was under the control of Commodore Tom Forberg.

A huge thank you to the Kovall Family for sharing these treasures.
If you have any navigators you would be willing to share, please send me an email. If you would rather upload the files you can use our upload form.
Wow! It’s amazing how 20 years makes a difference in those Navigators alone! This must have been hard to come across!
Also, my family’s been loyal to DCL since 2003, and we’ve sailed since then in 2007, and then 2013-present once per year! Here’s to twenty more magical amazing years!
Hi Scott, so glad you could use all the memorabilia from our Maiden Voyage cruise on the Magic. We were hooked since that day….40 DCL cruises later and counting.
MJ
Thank you for sharing these, MJ!
Thanks!
Most interesting factoids:
1) All aboard time at Nassau was 2am!
2) Excursion prices have more than doubled- Blue Lagoon Beach day went from $25 to $79!!! Bike rentals on Castaway were only $5 now $13 and yet the suggested tips for servers and host only rose from $3.50/person/day to $4
Hercules the Muse-ical was a great show!
Interesting things to me: “Shore Excursions” instead of “Port Adventures” (I assume the name changed when the Dream came in 2011), ship stayed in Nassau until 2am! (Given the fact Castaway Cay is only 70 miles away, the departure time didn’t really matter), the ESPN Sports Deck before Vibe, and Hercules the Muse-ical. I can only assume the Wonder’s Personal Navigators were the same on it’s Maiden 1999 voyage, but you never know.
These are fun to look at! But there are links to the restaurants, but no menus from then… am I just not finding them??? Would LOVE to see the menus from that time!
So would I, but I do not have menus from 1998 at this time.
I still have my Navigators from the 8/3/98 3 night sailing
Why can’t DCL send copies of the navigator before your cruise starts. This allows passengers to make copies before leaving home. Even if there is changes, it probably will be minor
