Disney Fantasy’s 8/26/2023 Sailing Switches to Eastern Caribbean to Avoid Impacts of Potential Tropical Development in Western Caribbean

Today’s scheduled Disney Fantasy 7-night cruise to the Western Caribbean has been switched to an Eastern Caribbean cruise to avoid a potential tropical system forecast to move near Cozumel and into the Gulf of Mexico early next week.

At this time, Invest 93L, the potential tropical system remains an area of interest, but regardless of development the seas will be impacted by the weather system.

As of the National Hurricane Center’s 2pm update;

Northwestern Caribbean Sea and Eastern Gulf of Mexico (AL93):
Showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure
located near the Yucatan Channel continue to gradually become
better organized. If this trend continues, advisories will be
initiated on this system later today. The system is expected to
move very slowly northward into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico
during the next couple of days. Heavy rains are likely over
portions of western Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Interests in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, western Cuba, and
Florida should monitor the progress of this system.

  • Formation chance through 48 hours…high…90 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…high…90 percent.

Guests onboard the Disney Fantasy received a letter regarding the weather disturbance, which is currently developing in the Western Caribbean and is predicted to become a tropical storm within the next 48 to 72 hours. Disney shared this update on the voyage.

We have been closely monitoring the storm’s forecasted track and the possible impacts in the Western Caribbean and have made the decision to change your itinerary. Instead of visiting Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica, you will now visit Tortola, British Virgin Islands, on Tuesday and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Wednesday.

Your stop at Castaway Cay will remain on Friday, as scheduled.

    Talk about waiting until the last minute. The rush to get new excursions planned is going to be murder on the cruise ship cast members.
