On this special Monday, we would like to wish all those who have served our country a Happy Veterans Day and say a big thank you for your service! With today in mind, today we will start off by looking at the special rates for US Military personnel. There are 10 sailings, mostly on the Disney Dream, that I could find, and two not listed on Disney’s special offer page. We noticed 6 new Florida resident rate cruises this week with the majority on the Disney Magic in early 2014 out of Port Canaveral. Canadian Resident rates aboard the reimagined Disney Magic are still available for early 2014 sails from Port Canaveral. DCL launched a new promotion, when you book by 12/15/13 you can secure a trip with 50% off the normal required deposit! The deal is only good for new bookings, and sailing where payment in full is not required at the time of booking. The remaining balance will be due at time of final payment, but it will save you in the short term. Finally, the Land & Sea vacation packages are still available.
Finally, a reader send in some photos of the decorations aboard the Disney Magic for everyone to enjoy.

Very Merrytime Cruises Underway
The Very Merrytime Cruises are now underway with the ships receiving holiday decorations in most of the public areas. One of our readers, Carol Gallo, was kind enough to share a few pictures of the decorations from the Disney Magic.
Scott your site had been so informational…..I’m asking for some serious advice. We have never cruised before and have two kids 8 and 6…we have a 4 night cruise booked with the Magic and are now EXTREMELY nervous….should we switch to the Dream with an identical itinerary and spend the litter extra. This is a lot of money for us and we don’t want to be disappointed. Please help!
Sarah,
I’m Emily, Scott’s wife.
A few things to consider.
1) Are they both the same itineraries? If yes, then we are more apt to chose the Magic. Amazing crew (not that the Dream crew isn’t amazing, but the Magic crew has lots of veteran CMs), smaller ship (less people) & less people at Castaway Cay.
2) Ages of your kids. Our 6 1/2 year old has been on 10 cruises and on every ship. She puts the Magic #1 for kids clubs and pool deck. She puts the Fantasy #2. The AquaLab area is amazing on the Magic.
So, when would I chose the Dream? Well, if they were about the same price, and the Dream was sailing out of PC, and the Magic was sailing out of Miami, PC is closer and I’d chose the Dream. The Dream does offer Remy and 2 cool stateroom categories (8A & 5E).
We almost always chose smaller, classic ship.
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much Emily! Not sure if this is the correct place to respond but we are just so nervous about all the reviews we are seeing about the Magic and wonder if the extra cost for the dream would be better for our kind ages or not? Sounds hilly but being first time cruisers and spending this chunk of cash, we just want t to exceed our expectations.
Right now there are identical itineraries out of PC when we are set go just one is a day earlier…..just struggling.
Where is your room and when are you sailing? There are some decks/staterooms totally unaffected. Also, I expect things to be ironed out soon!
We are on the 6th deck and paid a little extra for a verandah…don’t have the room number in front of me but know that we are closer to the elevators/middle of the ship.
Sarah,
Full disclosure, deck 6 is having the most plumbing issues. HOWEVER, they are moving people if there are any issues. I wouldn’t worry – I’d keep the Magic!
Are you sailing soon?
Could your daughter do the Aqua Dunk?
No – she’s only about 45″ but we did!
We don’t sail until The very beginning of March. I hope you don’t think we are being too picky but just trying to make the best decision. Bottom line….would we have more of a Wow factor on the Dream or the Magic considering all of the recent feedback about the issues and now considering that’s where we have our reservations.
You’ll be fine especially by March! You aren’t being picky at all. The Magic will ‘wow’ you 🙂 She’s a great girl!! Honestly!
We’ve been on lots of DCL cruises over all 4 ships and have 3 more booked in 2014 and are about to book a 2015 tomorrow – out of those 4 upcoming cruises, 3 are on the Magic!
Thanks so much! You have been VERY helpful. Sorry for the spelling errors, my iPad is not keeping up with my typing. We are sticking with the Magic!
P.S. Is Palo really worth it?
I vote for Palo brunch. You can find pics of it here: https://disneycruiselineblog.com/2013/02/palo-champagne-brunch-review/
Awesome! Thanks! Excited and nervous all at the same time. Another silly question….I’m a coffee drinker but love my flavored creamer….am I able to bring that on the ship with me?
Yep! You sure can!
Oh goodness…… Coffee drinker :)))
