I am really excited to share this news with all of you – especially those of you who will be sailing on the Disney Fantasy’s Eastern Caribbean cruise next Saturday. Darren Wilson, Senior Designer at Disney Design Group, will be will be onboard the Disney Fantasy debuting new his new series of Disney Cruise Line inspired artwork.
As it would turn out, a few months ago I spotted a Scrooge McDuck release that caught my attention. Naturally, when I heard Darren would be working on a new series for the cruise line I could not wait to see it… Then, earlier this week Darren started to share some of the artwork on his Twitter feed.
During the course of the seven-night sailing (which includes three fantastic days at sea), Darren will be appearing in the Vista Gallery for signings as well as painting an exclusive piece of art which will be for sale.
Exclusive Darren Wilson Disney Cruise Line Releases
All ten of Darren Wilson’s latest creations will be for sale and on display in the Vista Gallery located on Deck 4 at the top of the grand staircase in the Atrium Lobby. Signed and number giclees, as well as smaller prints starting at $39.99 will be available for some of the pieces. The all new artwork will be exclusive to the Disney Cruise Line ships; the prints will start out on the Disney Fantasy and eventually become available across the fleet.
Captain Mickey Textured | Giclees signed & numbered.
Sorcerer Mickey | Original only
Castaway Characters | Giclees signed & numbered.
Admiral Donald | Original only
There will also be metal Mickey heads cut from the scrap metal from the Disney Fantasy that have hand painted images on all them! Below are examples of Darren Wilson’s hand painted Mickey heads cut from the steel of the Disney Dream.
Darren’s other artwork can be found at Disney Galleries across the country including Wonderland Gallery in Disneyland and The Art of Disney locations around Walt Disney World. Recently, Darren created a signature release entitled, Sorcerer’s Magic, for Disney’s D23 Expo. The Sorcerer’s Magic artwork has been loaded on the Disney Art on Demand kiosks found at various locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Not sailing or visiting the parks? Well, you are still in luck, as some of Darren’s work can be purchased at DisneyStore.com.
I must say, I am very jealous of anyone sailing on the Fantasy next week, as my wife, daughter, and I spend a considerable amount of time in the Vista Gallery admiring all the wonderful, original artwork on display. I can only imagine how great it would be to watch one of his designs come to life over the course of a few days. If you are sailing on this cruise, make sure to check your Personal Navigators for the times Darren will be in the Vista Gallery. You could say we are wanna be art collectors; we have yet pull the trigger and purchase an original or limited edition giclee; but we do have quite a few prints adorning our walls, including a previous version of Captain Mickey standing on the pier in front of a ship created by Darren.
