DCL Know Before You Go 5+ Vaccination Requirement 20211117

Currently, Disney Cruise Line continues to require all vaccine-eligible Guests (based on US eligibility requirements) to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at the time of sailing. This will be a requirement for all Guests (US and international) ages 5 and up for sailings beginning on or after January 13, 2022. Guests who are not vaccine-eligible because of age must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. Guests ages 5 through 11 may complete this testing requirement in lieu of being fully vaccinated for sailings that depart before January 13, 2022. Guests 4 years of age and under must complete the testing requirements. The test should be a NAAT test, rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted.

Guests may also obtain their test from any independent testing supplier. Learn more about Pre-Trip Testing options available from Inspire Diagnostics by visiting Before Leaving Home: Know Before You Go.

All Guests, regardless of age and vaccination status, are required to take a COVID-19 test (paid for by Disney Cruise Line and administered by Inspire Diagnostics) at the terminal before boarding.

Guests sailing on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy through May 30, Disney Magic through May 8 and Disney Wonder through April 17, 2022, may modify their sail date or cancel their sailing without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees by contacting their travel agent by December 1, 2021. Please note that cancellation fees imposed by third-party suppliers, including airlines, as well as travel insurance, are not refundable. Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment. Below is a copy of the email Disney Cruise Line is sending to guest booking on upcoming cruises to share the new COVID-19 vaccination policy for Guests ages 5-11 for sailings beginning on and after January 13, 2022, as well as updated information on accepted vaccine types.

Dear EMILY,

All of us at Disney Cruise Line hope you and your family are staying well. We are reaching out with important updated information about the COVID-19 vaccination and testing requirements for your sailing.

As we welcome Guests aboard our ships, the health and safety of our Guests, Cast Members and Crew Members is a top priority. We have resumed sailing in a gradual, phased approach that emphasizes multiple layers of health and safety measures, developed considering guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other medical experts.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

Currently, Disney Cruise Line continues to require all vaccine-eligible Guests (based on U.S. eligibility requirements) to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of sailing, as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This will be a requirement for all Guests (U.S. and international) ages 5 and older for sailings beginning on and after January 13, 2022.

In consideration of guidance from the CDC and the World Health Organization, Disney Cruise Lines accepts the following vaccine types: Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Covishield, Novavax, Sinopharm, and Sinovac.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines fully vaccinated as 14 days after receiving:

  • a single-dose of an accepted 1-dose vaccine
  • the second dose of an accepted 2-dose vaccine
  • the full series of an active (not placebo) COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S.-based AstraZeneca or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine trials
  • the second dose of any “mix-and-match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines (administered at least 17 days apart)

Pre-Trip COVID-19 Testing:

Guests who are not vaccine-eligible, because of age, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (paid for by the Guest) taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. Guests ages 5-11 may complete these testing requirement in lieu of being fully vaccinated for sailings that depart before January 13, 2022. Guests 4 years of age and under must complete these testing requirements.

The test should be a NAAT test, rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted. Disney Cruise Line has secured a special rate of $98.33 per PCR test (which includes a 3.5% processing fee) through our third-party vendor, Inspire Diagnostics. Guests may also obtain their test from any independent testing supplier.

Safe Passage website, by Inspire Diagnostics:

In order to sail, all Guests (adults and children, regardless of age) must upload their proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results on the Safe Passage website by Inspire Diagnostics. A parent or legal guardian will need to use their own account to provide this information on behalf of minors. To learn more about how to provide proof of your negative COVID-19 test result, please visit Before Leaving Home: Know Before You Go.

After appropriate documents have been uploaded and reviewed by Inspire, Guests should see the words “Clear to Arrive” in the Pre-Sail Screening section when they log into their account before arriving at the port.

It is also recommended that Guests bring a copy of their proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 PCR test result with them to the port. If you have any questions about your Safe Passage registration or status, please contact 877-250-5132.

Embarkation COVID-19 Testing:

In consideration of guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all Guests (regardless of age and vaccination status) are required to take a COVID-19 test (paid for by Disney Cruise Line and administered by Inspire Diagnostics) at the terminal before boarding. This will be the second of two COVID-19 PCR tests required for unvaccinated Guests. Guests with positive COVID-19 test results—as well as those sharing the same stateroom and their close contacts—will be denied boarding.

Debarkation Day COVID-19 Antigen Testing

All unvaccinated Guests on 5-night and longer sailings are required to take a COVID-19 antigen test (paid for by Disney Cruise Line) on the ship the day before debarking.

Online Check-in:

You must complete Online Check-in beginning 30 days prior to your sailing. You will need to submit the required documents as well as select a Port Arrival Time. All Guests, including our Platinum Castaway Club Guests, will need to select a Port Arrival Time. It’s important you arrive at the terminal on time. Guests arriving prior to their selected arrival time will be asked to return at the appropriate time; and Guests arriving after their scheduled time may be delayed and asked to wait behind those arriving at their scheduled time. Online Check-in can be completed or modified up to one day prior to sailing. After completing Online Check-in, you will receive a Port Arrival Form by email. Bring this with you to the port to expedite your arrival.

Going Ashore:

Considering guidance from the CDC, fully vaccinated Guests who wish to disembark the ship while in a port of call can do so on their own. Guests who are vaccinated and wish to disembark the ship with unvaccinated children, in any port of call other than Disney Castaway Cay, will need to purchase a Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure for their party. Additional details about going ashore can be found in the Ports of Call: Know Before You Go section of our website.

My Plans:

Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app or go online to make advance reservations that are necessary for participating in youth activities or reserve premium experiences like beverage tastings and dinner at Palo. You’ll be able to reserve these experiences once your reservation is paid in full and you are within your Castaway Club booking window. At this time, we are still finalizing some of the onboard activity offerings and Port Adventures for your sailing and encourage you to continue checking back as new inventory becomes available.

Standard cancellation policies and terms and conditions apply for any cancellation or modification requests received on or after December 2, 2021.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard soon.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew

I assume you are vaccinated, so what do you care if a 5 year old is? You should be good to go, right? If you are that scared of this virus, please do not cruise. I have a feeling this is going to be short lived. Chapek loves his $$$ and this is going to cost him a ton of it.

@D: If you’re unwilling to follow the necessary rules, please do not cruise. They literally have stated that they don’t want you cruising. And trust me, DCL will be just fine without your business.

You are quite the little TROLL here aren’t you? HMMM>….NO actually, they are not fine… coming from someone who has been trained at the Disney Institute itself…. IT is not fine and will not be fine when they believe they are better at deciding for children than their own parents…. WHY? because parents will be UPSET, UNHAPPY, UNSATISFIED….. these are the absolute biggest failures for Disney and Disney KNOWS this. People PAY for an experience and if they are unhappy they don’t go back. In this glorious case they won’t go AT ALL…. YAY! BTW Disney now charges a multitude of things it hadn’t in the past…. The glory of capitalism…..But don’t forget CONSUMER CHOICE….. People like you thrive on calling others Ignorant, Idiots or uneducated….tsk tsk. People like me, are thoroughly entertained by your self importance and how you must waste time on trolling a page in defense of a company that is doing SO WELL. You have your OPNION and so does every other human…. BUT for some reason YOU are the judge and jury of who’s uneducated and ignorant. LMAO…. please do continue. You’re hysterically funny!

What will happened if you are denied boarding? Will you lose all your money for the trip which is their cancellation policy? The bad news is that people who are vaccinated may get a surprise positive test when boarding because of an asymptomatic breakthrough case. Also, how reliable is the test they will be conducting during boarding? There are bound to be false positives. Going to be lots of unhappy guests. There is too much to lose with cruising and the possibility of getting a breakthrough case beforehand. This will probably be our last cruise for a long time.

If your denied due to testing positive at the port, you get a full refund/future cruise credit. DCL is using a rapid PCR based test and has a high accuracy, I have heard reports of DCL double testing positive cases.

There are a lot more happy guest and people willing to go cruising with the safety measures in place.

@James Agreed! I’m extremely happy that DCL continues to keep the health and safety of their crew, cast members and guests paramount! Cruising right now is one of the safest ways to vacation (especially if you don’t have to fly to get there)! Plus, with all of these additional safety and sanitizing measures in place, other issues like norovirus are greatly reduced as well!

I wonder how they plan on handling kids who turn 5 just after the deadline but will not make the window of fully vaccinated before the sail date.

    Reply
  3. S

Kids who turn five and can’t complete a full series are usually grandfathered into testing only.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bahamian govt will announce a change in who needs to be vaccinated and Disney is just announcing in advance rather than waiting on them to announce at the last minute. I suspect they have a heads up!

Guess I will wait a few days before I call. I assume the lines will be busy with those cancelling. It is sad to have to cancel a couple of cruises again, but glad we found out now. We have been blest with many cruises. Cruising was always are go to vacation and when we would bring children, DCL was our go to line. First we could not cruise and now we will not cruise, but the good thing is the young ones discovered they would rather do other vacations. They are happy; we are happy that they are happy plus we have lots more money for vacations:)

I knew this might be coming but I’m surprised Disney went for it this soon. If you count out the vaccine dates kids would need appointments today or tomorrow to be eligible for the 13th. I guess Disney doesn’t play.

    Reply
    1. ArtyJ

In the US, the 2 doses are only 3 weeks apart. If you have to be fully vaccinated by Jan 13th, you need to get your 2nd dose on Dec 30th. The latest appointment for the 1st dose to be fully vaccinated by Jan 13th will be Dec 9th. There’re still plenty of times to make those appointments.

So not sure how this works if you are an international passenger and they don’t currently or in the near future allowing under 12s to get the vaccination. Especially for Europe sailings where I would think a large portion of the people on the ship are international and if you have little kids that can’t get vaccinated. Lots of cancellations? You have Disney Magic leaving out of Dover and anyone from the UK under 12 isn’t eligible to get the vaccine.

At this time, the policy is for US sailings and while it doesn’t state if the policy is permanent or even offer and end date, it does state the following: “Guests sailing on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy through May 30, Disney Magic through May 8 and Disney Wonder through April 17, 2022” when discussing the options for guests to modify their sail date or cancel their sailing without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees by contacting their travel agent by December 1, 2021.

Sad to see this —- someday we will take a Disney cruise again but not while they are trying to force me to vaccinate my children against a virus that presents no real risk to them. We’ll stick to the theme parks for now.
I am happily vaccinated but for the kids in my opinion the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze on the risks of COVID vs. the risk of vaccine side effects. Especially right now while it is still brand new and mistakes are still being made on how to properly dose children.

Please check your facts again. The children’s vaccine is safe. Look at the statistics of children dying, long term illness, ICU, regular hospital stays. Not every child who gets covid faces no risk. Even if the percentage seems small – we are not willing to risk our children’s health. They are vaccinated for so many things as a requiement to enter school. Vaccine requirements are not new. Everyone can do as they choose. Every business can make the requiements they choose. Life choices make consequences that must be accepted either with acceptance or upset.

Only 1 vaccine has a EUA for 5 year olds. None of them have Full FDA approval and been through long term studies.

Before you get angry about this, you can validated the above statement on the CDC website as fact.

Those school vaccines took 10 years of study before they were mandated. They’ve been out for decades. You are trying to mandate this one in less than a year, that was developed with new technology, and that has limited long term safety data. I’m not putting that stuff in my kids just to go on some overpriced cruise. Are you nuts? You trust these fools running this country into the ground… that’s your business. But don’t subject your kids to experimental jabs that don’t even make you immune.

What funnier is the entire GLOBAL community is waiting to see what happens to american children first before even attempting to use it on their Children. YOU have NO RIGHTS to decide for me and my children. I just got off a disney cruise this weekend. I WILL NEVER GO WHILE THIS IS IN EFFECT> Disney WILL FEEL it in their pocket. If you haven’t noticed many PAST Disney fans have thrown in the towel including myself. THEY CROSSED THE LINE. and i’ve spent tens of thousands if not hundrend thousand. BUT the memories where made and enjoyed. Its time to MOVE ON. BYE DISNEY….. my UNVACCINATED Children will STAY THAT WAY. Read the FINE PRINT MORON…. Just because a vaccine is deemed safe for emergency use authorization doesn’t mean there is no risk of side effects. Any vaccine – even those that have received full FDA approval and have been around for a decade or more – have a risk of side effects.
I have looked at the risks to children – I get the updated count from my state each day via a report provided by our city government. In the entire state of Maryland there is currently 1 pediatric ICU COVID case and 4 total pediatric COVID hospitalizations. Meanwhile just this week, also in Maryland, 98 children were given an incorrect vaccine dose at a South Lake Elementary School vaccine clinic.
As I said above after in my opinion the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze when it comes to the COVID vaccine. Especially while folks are still figuring out how to properly dose kids.
I’ll eventually get my kids vaccinated – they have received all their other shots – but I’ll do it on my schedule and in my timing. Not the minute it becomes available.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is uneducated or following disinformation.
Whether or not you are willing to admit it vaccine side effects are real – there are risks associated with each and every vaccine whether it is one that has been around for decades or one that has been around for less than two years.
I am well aware of both the incredibly miniscule risk of COVID to children and the incredibly miniscule risk of side effects from the COVID vaccine. As I said above after in my opinion the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze when it comes to the COVID vaccine. Especially while folks are still figuring out how to properly dose kids — just this week 98 children in my area were incorrectly dosed during a vaccination clinic at South Lake Elementary School.

our pediatrician told me last week it looks like the under 5 vaccine should be coming mid to late winter, for everyone asking about kids not yet eligible.

and yay for everyone canceling because you don’t want to vaccinate yourselves or your kids. you made it so much safer for the rest of us and all the cast members. just be prepared for it to become mandatory for school, like dozens of other vaccines you never had a problem with.

Are you going to require proof of vaccination to visit the parks. I happened to be in Epcot this weekend and it was way more packed than pre covid.

This is good news people. Better safe than sorry, if not for yourselves, for others. DCL is more concerned about safety than drama. Less concerned about your safety can make for a happy cruise or vacation. Welcome these changes and be happy that DCL is trying to do their best for the interest of your families. Do as you please, but don’t be upset with those that welcome the changes. Me and my family are fully vaccinated and look forward to cruising next year with a peace of mind knowing that DCL have our back when it comes to safety. And if I should test positive, then I do not need to cruise and I will be happy for those that can. Period.

Yeah. Not for me. Prices are outrageous as it is, and then have to deal with forced injections that don’t even last that long, and vax passports, and restrictions… not for me. Done with cruising. And the virus isn’t even a serious threat to children. Why is there such a rush to vaccinate them??

Masks all the time inside the ship, they stand outside the cabana and ask you to put your mask on. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was a joke like half of what they normally have(and not a good quality food), the 2 places with the popcorn machine was closed, no sticks for shuffle board game outside, no ping pong, the bar for kids at the vibe were closed, no coffee machine at the cabana, only one show is played , not sure why but the aqua duck was closed all morning on the island day and it was a beautiful morning, sucks for people ( like us) that stayed on the ship.one morning the Disney app didn’t work for few hours so we couldn’t check the time of things and to communicate with the kids. You need to sit with masks at movies and show but at bingo you can take it off if you order a drink. You need to wait at the cabana for them to bring you the utensil ( sometimes that just don’t see you) . I love Disney cruise and I hope it’s all will go back to normal before the Wish starts sailing so I can book it but this one was boring. Oh and we set in the car for 70 minutes waiting for COVID results.

R – I am not sure if this is just a great example of projection or just simple intolerance but either way my comment earlier to you (“Not everyone who disagrees with you is uneducated or following disinformation”) still stands.

Whether or not you believe it two well meaning people can examine the same set of facts and come to very different conclusions about what is best for themselves and their families based on those facts. You might want to take a few deep breaths and take a few moments to reflect on that.

Rather than accusing me of being uneducated (I’m a nuclear trained submarine officer with a masters degree by the way), having only a narrative based position, or only following disinformation consider being tolerant of those whose opinions are different than yours.

@mypftaccount Verified science isn’t opinion. Narrative and misinformation/disinformation is. It’s so sad that America has gotten to a place where there is an aggressive attack on science going on fueled by politics.

Facts aren’t an opinion but how you choose to use the knowledge from those facts to act is.
The risk and impacts of both the virus and the vaccines are facts – what you choose to do with those facts — i.e. if you choose to get the vaccine yourself or choose to have your children get the vaccines — is an opinion. At least in America – obviously in a totalitarian regime like China you can just be forced to get the vaccine.
If you look at American history the tug of war between personal liberty and authoritarianism when it comes to vaccines the current debate is nothing new. There is a reason that the Supreme Court case law on vaccine mandates goes back over 100 years. There is also a reason that in America the Federal government isn’t allowed to impose vaccine mandates no matter how much some would like them to be able to.
I don’t view the current state of affairs as sad at all — it’s a healthy thing to have disagreements in our democracy and part of what makes us so strong. What is sad is the way some folks are so intolerant of viewpoints of others — that is where things start getting dangerous.

Yeah we are out too…have a back to back in Sept on the Wish. My wife and I are vaccinated, but I’m not going to experiment on my children. I’m a financial advisor and work mainly with physicians here in Pittsburgh (home to some of the top hospitals in the country). I’ve asked most of them for an opinion, and the overwhelming consensus is “no”, its really not necessary for them to get vaxxed. This is not the typical flu vaccine, its new tech, and I most of you are right, long term effects are unknown. Remember, you can carry and transmit the virus even if you are totally vaxxed. I know more then a few people, including medical professionals, who are vaxed and have contracted the virus. The vaccine protects you, not anyone else.

@Alex Its disturbing how uneducated people are regarding the mRNA vaccines. It’s basically purposeful ignorance at this point. America should be so much better, sadly – this pandemic has shown we are absolutely not.

What is disturbing is how intolerant you are and the way you assume everyone who disagrees with you is uneducated.
Take a deep breath and calm down — you don’t actually have to be a intolerant jerk to everyone on the internet just because you can.
        It’s going to be ok.

@mypftaccount I follow science, which, as stated, is not definitely opinion. Stating facts, is not being a jerk. What a strange accusation. It was interesting though how you felt the need to claim an educational background in some attempt to convince others of your superiority. That is very on point though for the narrative you have shown that you follow.

Accusing everyone who dares to disagree with you of being uneducated isn’t science — its being an intolerant jerk. I didn’t provide my educational background to convince anyone of any sort of superiority —- I provided it to show you that you are wrong.
I realize you won’t believe me given how intolerant you are but I will say it again anyway because it is true: not everyone who disagrees with your opinions is uneducated. I will also add: not everyone who disagrees with your opinions is following a narrative though I realize that will be an even harder pill for you to try to swallow.

Dee, I am shocked. That is all so inexplicable. DCL is making so many demands on its passengers that you would think they would be going out of their way to make the cruise as enjoyable as possible. I am sure they would have all kind of lame excuses for some of the things you mentioned, so I will not bother giving my reasons why most of the lack amenities you mentioned are just ridiculous. I will say this one though. What is their excuse for mediocre food being served at Cabanas! Thank you so much for sharing. This certainly takes away any sting out of not going at this time. Sorry you had to have such a let down of a time.

Thanks Jo! Like I mentioned, we love Disney cruise and we probably will sail again in the future when there is no restrictions. But this is the first cruise that my kids hardly ate anything, we ate pizza next to the pool most of the time lol
Some of the changes just didn’t make sense but we paid $3500 with no restrictions discount ( we paid the same amount on previous cruises). I hope it will change sometimes next year.

Is there any news/rumours about perhaps DCL extending Future Cruise Credit given these requirements? Trying to push in a cruise before September 2022 is proving more and more difficult.

@ mypftaccount. You are so right. It is a sad day when people disagree with facts. If this continues, we may never get back to what was normal before the pandemic. We are becoming the Divided States of America. For the most part we need to respect the rights of others, even if we disagree with them. And that includes the rules and laws set up by the business industries. The reason to cruise is a personal choice for you and your families, vaccinated or not. Do so at your own risk. Just don’t be upset with those that has a different view and decide to do so. Also accept the consequences of your own action whether the outcome be good or bad, because the ending result will always be an reality of your decision only.
