Grand Cayman Extends Cruise Ship Ban Through 2020

Last week, the Port Authority of Grand Cayman issued a notice to cruise industry partners that the Western Caribbean destination will remain closed to cruise tourism through December 31, 2020. As we have discovered over the last few months, this is a dynamic situation, and as such, I would not recommend interpreting this as the port will reopen on January 1, 2021.

I wish to inform you that after careful consideration, the Cayman Islands Government has taken the decision that in the current global environment with respect to the coronavirus pandemic, it cannot allow the resumption of cruise tourism in the Cayman Islands for the immediate future. The Cayman Islands will therefore be closed for cruise tourism until the 31st December 2020.

The extended cruise tourism ban in the Cayman Islands means the following 2020 Disney Cruise sailings would no longer be permitted to drop anchor and tender guests ashore during these currently scheduled Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy itineraries.

The last part of the previous sentence is key, currently scheduled. We simply do not know when and how cruising will restart. I for one would be happy if this news just meant these 4 cruises sailed with an extra day at sea.
