Disney Cruise Line recently added a new item, Onboard Credit, to the list of items already available on the Onboard Gifts and Amenities website which relaunched earlier this year with the the ability to order items online instead of over the phone or by fax.

Onboard Credit
Purchase credit for yourself, family members or friends that can be used during an upcoming Disney cruise to cover anything that is charged to a stateroom account, including Port Adventures, spa treatments, beverages and more. Guests issued Onboard Credit will receive a card in their stateroom indicating who sent the gift, the recipient’s name and a personalized message.
Please note: For purchases of Onboard Credit less than 2 days prior to sailing, a card will not be issued, although the credit will be applied to the stateroom account.
To purchase Onboard Credit for an upcoming cruise, simply visit Disney Cruise Line’s Gifts & Amenities page and look for the Onboard Credit option under Shop by Category.

The Onboard Credit landing page prompts you to search for a registration if one is not already linked.

Searching for a passenger without an reservation number is simple as long as you know the person’s legal name and sail date.
Alternatively, you can enter a reservation number.

Once a reservation is linked, the process to purchase Onboard Credit from Disney Cruise Line’s Gifts and Amenities website is easy. Much like purchasing a gift card online, you will be asked to enter an amount.

Don’t worry, you are not going be charged just yet, you are just going to link the guest and then you are asked to verify the passenger before adding the Onboard Credit to the Bag for checkout.

Acceptable payment options include most credit/debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, and Disney Rewards Redemption Card.

What do you think? I find this to be an extremely useful addition to the Gift and Amenities offerings. It will surely save time instead of having to call to do this over the phone.
I had no idea this was included in the revamped site and I’m now sharing this with my family for the holidays! Thanks for the post!
Huzzah! I’m stoked for this.
If find it useful but I also find it a bit alarming and disappointing that it comes soon after they took away the onboard credit when you rebooked while on a cruise.
Do we know if we purchase the onboard credit and do not use it all, would we lose or or does it go back onto the original credit card used to purchase?
OBC you purchase is refundable.
Thanks Scott , can you send me a link where it states this? I asked a few other people who only deal with Disney, and both said you must use or lose it. Chat not functioning and the hold times are ridiculous. Again, thanks for the reply.
Well, now I am perplexed because I cannot find an online source. I was hoping it would be included in the description of the Onboard Credit option on Disney’s Onboard Gift page.
