Marvel Day at Sea is on the horizon with the first voyage just over two weeks away. The Disney Magic is steaming across the Atlantic to meet up with the super heroes in New York City to kick off the Marvel Day at Sea voyages which begin October 6th and continue on select itineraries into November. The themed cruises will also be featured in early 2018 on select sailings from Miami.
This week, Disney revealed some additional details about the various activities planned for the Marvel themed day aboard the Disney Magic. Marvel Day at Sea promises to be an awesome mix of immersive entertainment that will empower your passengers to unlock their hidden superhuman abilities.
- Family costume celebration
Guests are invited to bring their most heroic (or villainous) costumes on the cruise. During what’s sure to be an inspiring costume celebration in the ship’s atrium, we’re encouraging families to celebrate together in Marvel-themed groups. - Super Hero training for kids
For young heroes-in-training, Marvel-themed games, activities and arts and crafts will be offered throughout the day in Marvel’s Avengers Academy. Super Heroes like Spider-Man, Black Widow, Thor and Hawkeye will teach kids the true qualities of being a hero. Kids will enjoy interactive experiences like special secret agent training, learn the path to becoming worthy with Thor, and hone their reflexes, speed and intellect with Spider-Man. - Film screenings
We’ll have exclusive at-sea screenings of fan-favorite films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the newest theatrical releases, as well as viewings of the Disney XD shows: Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The newest Marvel cinematic feature, Thor: Ragnarok, debuts onboard Nov. 3, 2017 the same day as in theaters on land. - Marvel trivia
Kids and families summon their Marvel knowledge and enjoy friendly competition during trivia games, covering courageous heroes and fun facts from the Marvel Universe. And if your Clients are new to Marvel or want to brush up on their heroic facts, they can join us for a fun session that covers the basics of the Marvel Universe so they can stay up-to-speed during the entire epic event. - Fun with Mickey and friends
Even Disney characters are getting in on the action! Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale dress up to honor their favorite Marvel Super Heroes, and young cruisers won’t want to miss this opportunity to have some fun and dance with the gang up on deck.
Disney Cruise Line says there will be plenty of opportunities for heroic encounters with some of the mightiest Marvel Super Heroes and Villains, including an interactive show in the Walt Disney Theatre with Doctor Strange.
Through the power of special effects and projections, guests will be transported from the Walt Disney Theatre to the New York Sanctum Santorum, the residence of Doctor Strange. As apprentices, they’ll learn how to master the Mystic Arts, create portals to other worlds and cast spells.
Children play a special role in the experience, as Doctor Strange calls upon the young apprentices to learn the fundamentals of the Mystic Arts, and his Master Students lead the kids in training exercises. Each new student of Doctor Strange is awarded a certificate after completion of their mystic arts training.
But this powerful experience isn’t over yet! The students will need to put their new skills to the test when suddenly an epic battle against the Dark Dimension ensues. Doctor Strange calls upon his young apprentices to join forces and summon their practiced powers.
Guests can learn how to draw heroes like Spider-Man, Captain, Iron Man and Groot and take a quiz to determine the perfect Marvel comic for them!
Guests can also meet and hear behind-the-scenes stories from some of Marvel’s animation, game and publishing insiders. What’s more, this action-packed day features an extraordinary evening deck show like never before which DCL said they plan to reveal more on this in the future.
Guests booked on Marvel Day at Sea voyages have been receiving emails with some important information that pertains to both Marvel Day at Sea and Halloween on the High Seas events which a number of the fall sailings feature. The email reminds guests about the costume guidelines and provides a notice that there will only be one night of fireworks.
Guests are encouraged to dress up in their own super hero and villain costumes to join in on this day and again for our Halloween on the High Seas celebration which features themed activities throughout the cruise. Information on themed events, times, and locations will be available in the Personal Navigator that will be delivered to your stateroom. Due to the itinerary on this sailing, fireworks will only be offered during the Marvel Day at Sea deck party.
Please remember that while all Guests are invited to wear costumes for Marvel Day and Sea, Halloween on the High Seas and Pirate Night, masks that completely cover a person’s face may only be worn when standing still at character photo locations and must be carried when moving around the ship. We also ask that you choose costumes that are not obstructive or offensive. To avoid any disappointment or delay in the boarding process, please refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements, as these items will not be allowed onboard.
The original email DCL sent to guests is below.
Additionally, guests booked in a concierge level room are being contacted by shoreside concierge to see if they are interested in pre-booking the special Marvel Day at Sea character meet & greets. Below is an excerpt from the communication that was shared with us. This email was sent to a guest booked on the the first Marvel cruise sailing October 6th. They were informed that Marvel Day at Sea for their sailing would be October 12th, the second to last day at sea on the 8-night itinerary.
As you may be aware, your sailing will feature a MARVEL DAY AT SEA – and we wanted to take a few moments to let you know about some special character meet & greet offerings that are taking place on your cruise in celebration of this event! We attempted to reach you via phone but were unable to do so. Since you are Concierge Guests, we wanted to make sure you were notified about these limited, ticketed meet & greet opportunities before we open them up to the rest of the ship – as we expect them to sell out quickly! The following meet & greets may be pre-booked for the Marvel Day at Sea:
- HEROIC ENCOUNTERS – MISSION: NEW YORK – In this group meet & greet, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with some of your favorite Marvel Heroes from the New York City area, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Black Panther!

Has any information been released as to which sea day will be the Marvel day? I’m especially interested in the 5-nights next year, which have two sea days.
Jim, this information should be available to you by calling DCL. Additionally, if you are within your booking window you should be able to see this listed on your sailings cruise activities in DCL online planning center.
They’ve been hush, hush about specific dates yet. My booking date has passed and there was nothing listed about the Marvel day at sea. I’ve guessed by seeing which day had the fewest activities available for booking. On the 8 day cruises it’ll probably be day 7.
Star Wars Day at Sea has been that final sea day (Thursday) before the Fantasy’s final stop at Castaway Cay. This, along with your observation, may be a good indicator on which day it will be held. Do you see Pirate Night listed on a specific date?
Yes. Pirate night is Nassau day. Day 4.
For our upcoming 5-night cruise, I see pirate night on day 3, but no indication of anything on either sea day 2 or 4. So I’m guessing day 4, but would like to know before booking Palo brunch, for example.
Most likely it’ll be day 4. If you check activities you might see there’s very little available for booking on that day.
Marvel Day at Sea is officially day 7. When I booked the Heroic Encounters that’s the day they were on. I booked both of them at 2am this morning. As of now Groot is already down to only one booking time. I’m on the November 18th cruise.
Does marvel day at sea replace the pirate deck party on the 5 night cruise from Miami?
AC, I looked at DCL’s website and on the upcoming 5-night sailings from Miami there Pirate Night and Marvel Day at Sea are listed as two separate days. The specific day varies by the 5-night itinerary.
