Just got off the Fantasy Eastern Thanksgiving cruise, and we had some interesting things happen. The day before Thanksgiving in St Thomas a grandmother had a heart attack while on a snorkeling excursion and died. The family left the ship before we sailed away. We watched the crew bring out their luggage. It was very sad. The next day on Thanksgiving was an at sea day and we had to stop at the Grand Turk island for a medical evacuation. We stayed out in the water off the port while a lifeboat took the person to shore. We were delayed getting into Castaway Cay the next day by 2 hours (got there at 11 and left at 5:30). Not a very good Thanksgiving for some. I wonder how often these things happen. I guess it’s a numbers game when you have that many people sailing.
Medical emergencies are very common and just underreported. We had 3 evacs on a Fantasy Eastern, two by helicopter and one offshore San Salvador Island.
I was really looking forward to my home cooked Thanksgiving dinner….I really really wish I was on the ship for dinner and….just because.
