11 AM Update | Karen Dissipates to a Remnant Low

Tropical Depression Karen is no more.  Karen dissipated this morning to a remnant low pressure system.  Satellite imagery indicates that the center of Karen is no longer well defined and therefore, is no longer a tropical cyclone.  The remnant low pressure system is moving east at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds near 30 mph.  Regeneration is not expected due to a combination of dry air and vertical wind shear.

5 AM Update | Karen Expected to Weaken to a Remnant Low

Tropical Depression Karen is on the move this morning to the northeast at 2 mph.  Maximum sustained winds have decreased overnight to 30 mph.  The National Hurricane Center estimates that Karen will degenerate to a remnant low in about 12 hours. Karen is forecast to produce 1 to 3 inches of rain over portions of the central Gulf Coast and southeastern state, mainly to the east of the forecast track.

All previous tropical storm warnings have been discontinued.  There are NO coastal tropical storm warnings or watches in effect.

The tropical cyclone is expected to merge with a frontal system and completely dissipate within the next 48 hours.
