Onboard Booking Blockout Sailings

Current list of sailings for each Disney Cruise Line ship which are not eligible for the usual onboard booking benefits. The list includes past sailings to help estimate when DCL may block out future future sailings before they are officially announced.

When sailings on a Disney Cruise ship, you will have the opportunity to book a future cruise vacation at 10% off the prevailing rates, up to a $200 stateroom credit (as of September 28, 2019, Onboard credit is no longer offered), and reduced deposit on sailings of 7-nights or longer.

Disney Cruise Line’s Onboard Booking Offer allows Guests to make a Placeholder Reservation for a future Disney cruise and enjoy 10% savings off prevailing rates as quoted on disneycruise.com, plus enjoy a reduced deposit on sailings 7-nights and longer. The offer is valid for up to 2 staterooms on one sail date per household on board regardless of the number of adults in the household. This offer is valid for Categories 4 to 11 only. The cruise must commence within 24 months after the Placeholder Reservation was booked or the reservation will automatically cancel.

  • A Placeholder Reservation is an open-ended reservation that allows Guests to select their future sail date at a later time. A $250 deposit must be paid while on board and is fully refundable if the reservation is canceled. Once a sail date is selected, standard cancellation fees apply.
  • 10% savings applies only to sailings that commence within 24 months after the Placeholder Reservation is booked on board.
  • Blockout dates apply; please contact Disney Cruise Line or your travel agent for specific blockout dates. Reservations for future cruises that fall on blockout dates are not eligible for the 10% savings offer.
  • The offer cannot be combined with Florida Resident Rates, U.S. Military Rates or with any other special offer or discount. Not valid on VGT, OGT, or IGT Categories with Restrictions or 2-night sailings.

Below is a look at an older onboard rebooking flyer with the latest fine print showing the block out dates. Currently, this is all handled within the DCL Navigator App while onboard your cruise. The information below is for historical purposes. Jump to the bottom to see the list of block out dates.

DCL Onboard Booking Promotion FY23

For guests unsure about which future cruise they’d like to book, or you’d like to book a new sail date that has yet to be announced, Disney offers guests the opportunity to purchase a Placeholder, this was commonly referred to as a dummy booking back in the day. A placeholder secures the onboard offer for 24 months, giving you time to decide which itinerary and sail date would be best for you. The placeholder requires a $250 deposit per stateroom and is fully refundable at any time. The offer is valid for up to two staterooms on the same sailing. To book a placeholder complete the following form which you can print from the image below, or pick up a copy form the Disney Vacation Planning location onboard. The only caveat with the placeholder is you must book a new sailing over the phone as Disney Cruise Line’s current website does not allow you to book a new sailing with a placeholder.

When you book a placeholder, keep an eye out for your Castaway Club Thank You mailing from Disney Cruise Line. Not only will it contain a commemorative ship art drawing, it will include a reminder on when you must sail by in order to take advantage of the onboard booking promotion.

DCL Placeholder Reminder Mailer 2019

Effective December 13, 2013, Disney Cruise Line’s onboard rebooking policy was modified to include block out dates. The block out dates are not necessarily exclusive to holidays. The policy at that time stated, for these sailings only, you will not receive the 10% discount, but will still receive onboard credit (This is a historical statement as OBC is no longer part of the offer). If you decide to move your existing onboard booking to a blocked out date, you keep the onboard credit, but will lose the discount. For the most accurate list of upcoming block out dates, please visit DCL’s page on the topic.

The terms and conditions of the Disney Cruise Line Onboard Booking Offer allows Guests to make a Placeholder Reservation for a future Disney cruise and enjoy 10% savings off prevailing rates as quoted on disneycruise.com, plus enjoy a reduced deposit on sailings 7-nights and longer. The offer is valid for up to 2 staterooms on one sail date per household on board regardless of the number of adults in the household. This offer is valid for Categories 4 to 11 only. The cruise must commence within 24 months after the Placeholder Reservation was booked or the reservation will automatically cancel.

Effective October 11, 2023, guests and travel agents selecting a sail date for a placeholder reservation will now have the standard 3-day hold period to pay any additional deposit amounts owed.

If the full deposit amount is not met by the due date, the reservation will be canceled, and any onboard offer benefits received when the placeholder reservation was booked will be forfeited. Please note that if a reservation with an onboard offer applied is canceled due to non-payment, the reservation cannot be reinstated.

Previously, guests were required to make a payment for any additional deposit amount at the time of selecting an actual sail date dating back to when the placeholder reservations were first introduced several years ago.

Not sure when your onboard booking benefits expire, check out this page to get a rough idea based on the date you purchased the voucher.

Some of my fellow passengers on the Magic Nov 5 2016 and I were not given the 10% off when moving a placeholder to this trip on opening day, while some of them did get the 10%. Is there any explanation for that? This date is not on the blackout list.

I’m wondering if the July 9, 2017 cruise on the Magic 12 night British Isles cruise is on the black out list? Thanks

Since they aren’t giving OBC anymore, if you choose a blockout sailing you get nothing? or do you get OBC like you would if you picked a concierge room on a non-blockout sailing?
