DisneyBand+ Launching Soon Aboard the Disney Fantasy – Available to Order Now

Disney Cruise Line quietly started offering DisneyBand+ orders for upcoming Disney Fantasy sailings beginning with the July 29th 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral based on reports from a number of guests booked on this departure. Please note, the DisneyBand+ is an optional item and does not replace KTTW cards as those are still required to debark and embark the ship at ports of call. As for the price, Solid DisneyBand+ cost $34.99, and themed DisneyBand+ designs cost $44.99, plus tax. Guests on eligible sailings are able to purchase DisneyBand+ online 45-11 days prior to embarkation.

UPDATE – July 11, 2023: Disney Cruise Line confirms July 29th as first sailing to use the DisneyBand+ technology.

Although DCL’s DisneyBand+ overview page still states “Sailing on another Disney cruise ship? Check back for more information!”, the more detailed DisneyBand+ and more page that requires guests to login now references the Disney Fantasy.

You can read more about the DisneyBand+, and how you can use a MagicBand+ you already own in this introductory article which includes a copy of Disney Cruise Line’s DisneyBand+ FAQ. I will highlight a few of the most commonly asked questions below.

Can I use my DisneyBand+ at Disney theme parks around the world?

Your DisneyBand+ for Disney cruises can be used at Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort.

Can I still use my Key to the World card instead of a DisneyBand+?

Key to the World cards will continue to be issued and can be used as they are today, including to access your stateroom and charging food and merchandise purchases to the payment card on your stateroom folio.

Your Key to the World and photo ID (for Guests 18 and older), will still be required to debark and embark at Ports of Call.

Can I use my MagicBand+ on board Disney Cruise Line ships?

Yes, your Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort MagicBand+ can be used as a DisneyBand+ during select Disney Cruise Line sailings. Following the preview that is taking place on the Disney Wish, DisneyBand+ will begin to make its way to select sailings aboard other Disney Cruise Line ships. Stay tuned as more information is announced.

I’m befuddled as to why DCL doesn’t have the token built into the Navigator app. We are already carrying our phones around for the Navigator app (no more paper). So, why not let us use our phones for stateroom access and paying.

Disney IT is generally a mess. Left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, etc, etc. And then when you have separate business lines like resorts and cruise line operations doing their own thing, then when they later decide to go back and try to force some backend systems together it gets even worse. Mix in a ton of relatively recent outsourcing so you’ve also lost any institutional knowledge in the IT groups and now relatively simple seeming things are complicated to execute.

Only if they are Magic Band+ (the rechargeable ones). The original Magic Bands won’t work on DCL (but they should still work at WDW).

What do these bands buy you on the ship? Do they do magical things during the fireworks? Unlike WDW where you are using Genie+/Lightning Lane scanners, charging food (including meal plans), souvenirs, etc., the cruise line doesn’t really do any of that. You only real need a card to get into your statement. If you charge anything to your room, you can say your stateroom is ….. Your picture pops up on their screen so they know it’s you and they make the charge.
