Disney Cruise Line Increases Base Gratuities – Adds Recommendation for Concierge Guests (July 2022)

This week, Disney Cruise Line quietly modified their FAQ page on tipping increasing the recommended gratuity guidelines for select positions and for the first time defining a minimum for Concierge. The overall recommended minimum increase totals to $1 per day per guest.

As of July 2022, Disney Crusie Line recommends a base gratuity amount of $14.50 per night, per stateroom Guest, including infants and children—which will be dispersed to the Crew Members who serve you daily in the rotational dining restaurants and your stateroom:

  • Dining Room Server – $4.75 per person/per day
  • Assistant Dining Room Server – $3.75 per person/per day
  • Dining Room Head Server – $1.25 per person/per day
  • Stateroom Host – $4.75 per person/per day

The recommended increase is $0.25 per person/per day for the Assistant Dining Room Server, Dining Room Server, Dining Room Head Server and Stateroom Host/Hostess.

Concierge Guests

For the first time, Disney’s FAQ references Concierge guests. For Concierge Guests Disney Cruise Line added the Assistant Stateroom Host/Hostess position to their recommended gratuities. The recommended gratuity is $15.50 per person/per day based on the length of the cruise for Concierge Guests.

  • Dining Room Server – $4.75 per person/per day
  • Assistant Dining Room Server – $3.75 per person/per day
  • Dining Room Head Server – $1.25 per person/per day
  • Stateroom Host – $4.75 per person/per day
  • Assistant Stateroom Host – $1.00 per person/per day

Additionally, Concierge Guests often ask for guidance regarding gratuities for the Concierge Lounge Team (Concierge Managers and the Concierge Servers).

  • Concierge Lounge Team (Concierge Managers and the Concierge Servers): Guests staying in Concierge accommodations are recommended a gratuity amount of $8.00 per night, per stateroom Guest. However, it is always up to the Guest to determine what they feel is appropriate.

It is worth noting, the concierge team also takes care of the Cabanas at Castaway Cay. Therefore, keep this into consideration if you are booking a cabana as it is nice to add a little more for the teams efforts during your day ashore at Disney’s private island.

Pre-paid gratuities that were added to a reservation prior to July 2, 2022 will be honored. However, I am a sure y’all will take care of the crew and add to their tips!

The last time Disney increased the recommended gratuities was in January 2019.

Our tip calculator has been updated based on the new individual position recommendations.

We recommend pre-paying your base gratuities. Then, onboard adding an additional cash tip handed directly to the individual. We typically write thank you notes to the various tipped positions to go along with the additional cash tip. Remember, Disney Cruise Line is simply recommending a base amount, for the most part, the cast works extremely hard to ensure you have a great experience. Tip them well.

What are your thoughts on the increase? Do you normally add additional gratuity based on overall service or do you stick with the recommended tip amounts?

My wife and I have always given more. They earn it just by the fact they become friends for time you are on board and stay friends after you leave the ship.

I have a question regarding the dollar amount for this. Stateroom assistant host: Guests staying in Concierge Staterooms and Suites are recommended a gratuity amount of $15.50 per night, per stateroom Guest. Does that mean $31.00 for two people in a room per day? So for a 3 day cruise the tip would be $93.00

      Assistant Stateroom Host is $1/guest/day = $6 for a 3 day cruise.
      $15.50/guest/day covers all positions listed.
      Dining Room Server $4.75+ Assistant Dining Room Server $3.75 + Dining Room Head Server $1.25 + Stateroom Host $4.75 + Assistant Stateroom Host $1.00 = $15.50/guest/day x 3 x 2 = $93.

I think the Concierge amount is fair, definitely add more for cabana tip for sure. It might be a little on the low side as listed (I’m just calculating for two though), but I had seen some recommendations online that was a little too crazy high, but also by not listing it at all, a lot of people were probably giving zero! Also don’t forget to take care of the concierge bartenders if they’re good (which they usually are, except for one time, oh boy.)

In my experience, the Concierge team does not take care of the Cabanas on Serenity Bay. The Cabana hosts there come from other areas of the ship’s crew, and those hosts should definitely be tipped separately from the Concierge team.

It may have changed since covid, but in our two times getting cabanas around 2019 it was the concierge hosts that handled the cabanas both times.
