Today, Port Canaveral commissioners unanimously approved a multi-day special event request from Disney Cruise Line to welcome the Disney Wish. Currently, the Disney Wish is scheduled to arrive early on June 20, 2022.
Port Canaveral’s commissioners approved Disney Cruise Line’s request to host a multi-day event for the Disney Wish events on June 20th and June 29th. These dates and their event locations have been reviewed and approved by the Canaveral Port Authority Special Events Committee.
This multi-day event will take place in Port Canaveral on June 20th (ship arrival at CT8 and CT10), and June 29th (ship christening at CT8). According to the documents published by Port Canaveral, the Christening ceremony will take place at Cruise Terminal 8 on June 29th. Disney Cruise Line will conduct on-site installation and event rehearsals from June 16th – June 28th. The technical and structural elements that Disney Cruise Line will provide include bleachers, stage, audio towers, light towers, video walls, generators, tents, and special effects.
According to the documents published by Port Canaveral include these following date:
Monday, June 20th, 2022 – Wish arrival at Cruise Terminal 8 and Cruise Terminal 10 (early morning)
Wednesday, June 29th, 2022 – Wish Christening Ceremony at Cruise Terminal 8
Thursday, July 14th, 2022 – Wish Maiden Voyage Cruise at Terminal 8A
You can view the portion of the meeting discussing the approval of the agenda item at the 1 hour 8 minute in the following video.
Disney Cruise Line last held an event of this magnitude at Port Canaveral in 2011 when they celebrated the arrival of the Disney Dream and held the Christening ceremony on January 19, 2011.
Thank you for this detailed update. It’s greatly appreciated.
I’m sad that the Wish arrival time is so early in the morning. You can’t see much in the dark.
Do you know what time the maiden voyage will depart? I was hoping to see the fanfare in person of that event.
Penny, looking at the current schedule at Port Canaveral, it is 5pm. However, this is subject to change.
What time is “early”? Are people allowed in to watch?
There are plenty of public areas around Port Canaveral to view the ships.
Any word on if they’ll stream the Christening Ceremony online at all?
This has not been announced, but I would be shocked if they didn’t offer a live stream on the Disney Parks Blog.
Any news on hire you can attend the Christening?
Will there be a special event for tomorrow morning at Jetty Park? Is it worth going to the Jetty at 4am for the celebration?
Will the ceremony on the 29th be open to the public? 29th is also planned Atlas 5 launch from CCAS.
The in person event is not open to the public. However, Disney will live stream the event.
So what is the Wish doing from the 29th to 14th?
