Hotel Review: SpringHill Suites Cape Canaveral (Cocoa Beach)

In this hotel review, we are going to share our experience from a stay at the SpingHill Suites Cape Canaveral, a relatively new hotel serving the Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach area on Florida’s Space Coast. The hotel opened in July 2020, and about a 5-10 minute drive to the various cruise terminals such as Disney Cruise Line cruise terminal 8 at Port Canaveral. The proximity factor to the port alone makes this a hotel worth considering for a pre-/post-cruise stay, but more on our overall thoughts later.

For now, let’s take a closer look around the hotel which features ample parking, meeting rooms, hot breakfast, two bars, and a pool with a hot tub. Just inside the main door, opposite the check-in desk is a large seating area with a bar at one end, a buffet area along the wall opposite the windows and a number of TVs. One impressive aspect about the public area televisions around the hotel from the lobby to the pool bar, the remote is available allowing guests control of the programing.

SpringHill Suites offers rooms with 3 general configurations; single king-sized bed, 2 queen beds, and 2 king beds with a selection of accessible rooms of which we were given. Please note, this was not a request of ours. Aside from a few modifications and potentially additional space, our suite with 2 queen beds appears representative of the other non-accessible rooms based on pictures shown on the hotel website.

The rooms include a mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker.

The desk has an outlet with USB outlets along with a lamp with integrated USB outlets. There are more outlets with USB on the nightstand and under the television. There were plenty of places to charge devices that I didn’t really need the charging stations I typical bring when traveling.

As I mentioned previously, our room was an assessable hotel room. This added a doorbell which in a hotel can often be troublesome. However, inside the room there is a switch to disable the exterior door bell so everyone can sleep quietly the next time someone wants to be funny and ring the doorbell at 2 AM.

The bathroom was spacious, but this could be related to the assessable stateroom layout. While the room can accommodate a family, the restroom is one big room versus a split layout design.

If your traveling party requires additional space, there are connecting rooms available at this location.

The hotel offers a pool with hot tub, a covered outdoor bar with multiple televisions, and a sitting area with fire pit. I’d say it offers a nice break from a long travel day before embarking on a cruises or winding down after a day touring the Space Coast.

Near the pool, you will find a 24-hour fitness center with multiple cardio machines and free weights. The ellipticals and treadmills have built in televisions.

After spending time at the gym or out tanning by the pool, you may find yourself in needing to do some laundry. Located just down the hallway from our room was a small laundry room with a washer and dryer. The machines do don’t accept room keys like onboard laundry, so you will need to bring at least 16 quarters to cover the $2 wash and the $2 dry.

When traveling we often look for places for pre-/post-cruise stays that include a hot breakfast. SpringHill Suites offers a nice selection continental breakfast fare with scrambled eggs, sausage, and make your own waffles. The waffle makers made 4 smaller waffles instead of one large waffle which is great for reducing food waste. We saw quite a few guests making just one or two waffles. Huge bonus points for the granola bars, those were great to take with me along with a cup of coffee when I left early in the morning to head out to the golf course. Which was a wonderful surprise, as some items were available before the posted hours!

The rooms do not offer mini-bars, but if you are looking for a quick snack, there is a market with assorted snacks as well as laundry detergent near the front desk. Simply grab what you want and check out at the front desk.

The hotel’s free WiFi was more than adequate for our stay. There is an option for enhanced internet which can be purchased for about $5/day or free for loyalty program members gold and higher. Often times, we travel with an Apple TV which we use in hotel rooms, but here it wasn’t needed. In addition to the cable TV offerings, the hotel offered multiple streaming services pre loaded in TV’s entertainment system. For example, just click on Netflix, enter your credentials and stream away. There is a way to sign out of all services with one click, but I am not sure if there is an automatic sign out of all services when you check out and the room is turned over. Best bet is to do this yourself just in case, we did not sign in to any service to test. Additionally, there are a few other streaming options such as HBO and Showtime that were complimentary.

The hotel’s two meeting rooms are named Starboard and Portside.

SpringHill Suites Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach Website Summary as of June 2021

Overall, we really enjoyed the hotel for the room, hot breakfast, and most of all, the proximity to the port and other areas. We only spent 1 night here. We checked in after spending the day at Jetty Park Beach which is located at Port Canaveral. The location was ideal for our brief stay as it was close to the beach, our dinner spot, and the golf course I played the morning we checked out. I’d highly recommend SpringHill Suites if you are looking for a place to stay the night before or after your cruise. They do not offer cruise parking, but Park Port Canaveral is a mere 1-minute drive down the street.

Curious if you think booking their port transportation package is worth it? Didn’t know if it might be walkable.
