During our recent trip on the Disney Fantasy we noticed a new line of merchandise inspired by Animator’s Palate, the popular rotational restaurant on all four ships. I’ve been sitting on these photos for over two weeks now to the point the Disney Parks Blog beat me to the story. In feeble attempt to ride their wave, I’m going to share the photos now, and reveal one big secret the Disney Parks Blog article didn’t mention.
You see, the Parks Blog wants you to book a cruise and buy this merchandise on board. Well, as luck would have it, the entire 14-item Animator’s Palate collection has been available from shopDisney since March 19th. See, I was on a cruise this is why I’ve been dragging my feet on this article. Included below you will find affiliate links to shopDisney for each item.
Before we get any further, the items in this collection have been in and out of stock at shopDisney since they first appeared online. I would say if you see something you like and it is sold out, just keep checking back as the shopDisney inventory is always changing.
Everyone’s favorite, the Animator’s Palette Butter Knife ($9.95), has long been available onboard and online, but the new collection is so much more than just kitchenware.
The majority of the items allow you to be a kid again and color the items with the included markers. On top of that, all the markers are Disney Cruise Line branded so in a few years they can be individually listed on eBay for $50 like the stateroom ballpoint pens are today.
Not that it matters, but it should be noted that the appetizer plate, bowl and dinner plate are all a hard plastic material called melamine, not ceramic. Given the target audience, this is a good thing as it should be durable. Additionally, the dish ware is listed as dishwasher safe, but it is NOT microwave safe.
Disney Cruise Line Dinner Plate $12.99
Disney Cruise Line Appetizer Plate $9.99
Disney Cruise Line Bowl $9.99
Disney Cruise Line Apron for Adults $32.99
Disney Cruise Line Apron for Kids $24.99
Disney Cruise Line Character Popsicle Maker $24.99
Disney Cruise Line Coaster Set $24.99
Disney Cruise Line Coloring Placemat and Marker Set $24.99
Disney Cruise Line Drinkware and Marker Set $22.99
Disney Cruise Line Mug and Marker Set $19.99
Disney Cruise Line Meal Set for Kids $21.99
Disney Cruise Line Stemware and Marker Set $24.99
Disney Cruise Line Tumbler $9.99
What do you think about this new line of Animator’s Palate merchandise?
Thanks for this insightful article Scott. I perused these items on the Magic last month & personally for me they didn’t want to jump into my reusable $1.00 bag. I especially did not care for the markers idea I felt it cheapened the products (deemed for the younger crowd only.) I still have my ceramic Winnie the Pooh flatware set & it has a certain adult factor. Great for the little one’s though, but my little one is now 13, hard pass for me. I did purchase a few new DCL items like a sweatshirt and hoodie but the one’s without the dates displayed. Was in the market for a nice framed picture but the offerings were just meh…With everything going on with the cheapening of the brand under the guise of going greener, (more green in DCL pocket) our family has agreed upon conclusion of our previously scheduled sailings no more DCL until the new ships, till we meet again DCL.
I like them and it definitely looks geared towards parents and grandparents of little kids. Chances are we will pick a few of the items. TBH, I would rather buy the Animator’s Palette plates with the painted mickey ears and red paint brush. Along with a coffee mug and plate that looks like the table numbers.
James, Agreed. They are really missing out on those that would like to purchase the actual dish ware sets. They used to sell the Frette bed sets, seems like it would be easy to have a small note somewhere that sets are available for purchase upon request.
So nice to see what the materials really are. We wanted to see them in person prior to purchase anyway since size matters for our dinnerware. Guess we may mick up a bowl for kids cereal or something, but won’t be replacing our normal stuff. Thanks!
I wounder what the loss rate of the butter dish at Animator’s Palette is vs the other DMRs.
My mother has that paint brush butter knife. (she bought it on the Dream) Totally jealous. Serves it at parties so cool.
