On February 13, 2016, the Disney Wonder came to the aid of 12 Cuban migrants floating along in a makeshift boat while sailing to Grand Cayman during her first cruise of the year from the Port of Miami. When the rescue occurred, I checked the position of the Disney Wonder on MarineTraffic, but she was out of range of the terrestrial receivers so we do not have a map to show where the rescue took place. Captain Robert made an announcement that 12 people were rescued and safely brought onboard. The Disney Wonder continued to sail to Grand Cayman where the group was turned over to local authorities on Sunday.
Tyler (@UCF_Knightmare) tweeted out the following pictures of the makeshift raft.
As mentioned earlier, the Disney Wonder is currently sailing on her first cruise from the Port of Miami of the year following her recent time in San Juan sailing to the Southern Caribbean. The current 5-Night Western Caribbean Cruise will visit Castaway Cay on Tuesday and return to Miami on Wednesday.
