The Disney Super Bowl Movie Trailer Roundup: Oz, Lone Ranger & Iron Man 3

Last week, Disney put out teasers for their upcoming Game Day Spots. After watching them I had three must see commercials that I wanted to make sure I saw during Sunday’s Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens.

Oz The Great and Powerful

Disney’s fantastical adventure, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

I’ve been anticipating the release of Oz since it was first announced and cannot get enough of the pre-release marketing. I really hope the movie lives up to the hype. We all have our idea of what Oz looks like from the 1939 classic, and so far it looks amazing.

Oz The Great and Powerful releases in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

Disney.com was also taken over by the Witch and offered this unique animated movie poster to promote the upcoming film.

The Lone Ranger

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, comes a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

When the teaser trailer first came out for the Lone Ranger I was a bit skeptical and just looking forward to the Hans Zimmer score. Now, after watching a few trailers my interest is peaked and I am on board to see this in the theater.

The Lone Ranger releases in U.S. theaters on July 3, 2013.

Iron Man 3 Extended Big Game Look

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

This is sort of a no brainier. So far, I’ve not been let down by the Marvel movies and Iron Man 3 looks to continue the streak. I was hoping for more from this trailer, but we still have a few months for the marketing to kick into full gear. This extended spot was only online, and it takes a great jab at extended trailers.

Iron Man 3 releases in U.S. theaters on May 3, 2013.

All three of these films will PremEar at Sea on all of the Disney ships on their respective opening dates. Make sure to check your Personal Navigators each day for showtimes. I am really looking forward to seeing Oz The Great and Powerful opening weekend while sailing on the [Disney_Fantasy]. Which movie are you looking forward to the most?

Thanks – great info! I’m thinking that Oz will be on the Fantasy for the April 13th cruise – what else though? Iron Man and Lone Ranger won’t be out yet.
