Lookout Cay Port Summary
Lighthouse Point is located on the southernmost tip of Eleuthera, where the deep-blue Atlantic Ocean meets the turquoise waters of The Bahamas. During the Destination D23 event, Thomas Mazloum reveals the new island destination will be called 'Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point'.
Island Inspiration
Lighthouse Point pays tribute to the beauty of nature, which gives shape to the architecture on the island. Nature’s influence can be seen in the curvy shapes and vibrant colors that are inspired by the plants and shells found on the island. Community and collaboration are also shaping forces, as Disney has partnered with Bahamian artists, historians and cultural ambassadors to bring Lighthouse Point to life. And at the center of it all exists our Arts and Cultural Pavilion, a colorful gathering spot that honors the soul of Bahamian culture.
Disney-Designed Amenities
Everything needed for a carefree day at the beach awaits—towels, lounge chairs, umbrellas, food, fun and a pinch of pixie dust, all included. An expansive family beach, a tranquil adult-exclusive beach escape and a fun-filled island-inspired play land for kids are just some of the many magical amenities found in this special place under the sun.
History
The Bahamian Government approved the sale of Lighthouse Point to Disney Cruise Line on October 19, 2018. Research suggests Disney purchased the property from a partnership between Meritage Hospitality Group and The Related Group who announced plans to develop a Lighthouse Point in early 2008. At the time, the approved development plans called for a luxury resort with golf course. George Baker, a Bahamian businessman and former member of the Bahamian House of Assembly was the owner prior to Meritage Hospitality Group's acquisition of the property for an undisclosed amount. Lighthouse Point was last listed for sale for $20 Million when news first surfaced Disney's interest in May of this year. It has been reported, the pier alone will be a $250 billion-dollar project. On March 11, 2019 Disney completed the Lighthouse Point purchase and signed a Heads of Agreement with the Bahamian Government. January 29, 2020, Disney launched LighthousePointBahamas.com and a full resolution look at the conceptual plan for the development of the property. 
The complete 551 page Lighthouse Point Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was released on March 10, 2021 and is available to download here (full resolution version). On July 16, 2021, following the public comment period, Disney released the Lighthouse Point Public Consultation Report which is over 550-pages.
The Bahamas Department of Environmental Planning and Protection issued a Certificate of Environmental Clearance for the project in November 2021.
Originally, Disney was expected to open Lighthouse Point as a cruise destination in the first half of 2024, and later announced the first ships would visit Lighthouse Point in June 2024. Click here to view all Lighthouse Point articles.
