AT&T Now Offering a Seamless Land & Sea International Day Pass

AT&T cellular customers now have another option for coverage while sailing the high seas. Today, AT&T announced a revamped International Day Pass which aimed at simplifying the travel experience for cruise customers with seamless connectivity on land and sea with no additional charge to use on land the same day.

As of April 16th, AT&T is adding more value and removing some of the stress from traveling by letting customers go the extra mile on more than 400 cruise
ships on AT&T’s International Day Pass. This updated travel pass covers both
land and sea for a daily flat fee of $20, which includes 500MB/day data allowance with no data overages and unlimited talk and text.

Cruises will be covered for compatible devices with AT&T International Day Pass (IDP). You’ll only pay for the days you use it on land or at sea.

  • At sea: $20 per device for 24 hours.
  • On land and at sea on the same day: $20 per device for 24 hours.
  • On land only: $12 for 24 hours, for one device. Additional lines used the same day are only $6 for 24 hours. Never pay for more than 10 days per billing period for land only.
  • There is no limit on the number of days charged when used at sea.

FYI: When you’re sailing in international waters, generally six or more nautical miles from land, your ship is considered at sea. While at sea, the maritime network will be turned on, but it won’t be available when the ship gets closer to land or is docked in port. When you get off the ship, you should be able to connect to the local wireless network.

“AT&T’s guiding North Star will always be our customers. They keep us grounded
and help guide us in creating deals and services they deserve – that’s why we do
what we can to connect customers wherever they are,” said Erin Scarborough,
senior vice president of Consumer Product for AT&T. “We’re in this journey
together with our customers, so it’s important they experience seamless
connectivity wherever they go.”

The new AT&T International Day Pass is currently available on more than 400 cruise ships including the current Disney Cruise Line fleet: Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Wish, and the Disney Treasure. I should note, the list of cruise ships eligible with the AT&T International Day Plan shows TBD (to be determined) next to the Treasure. The offering also comes with an important statement: Participating cruise lines and ships are subject to change without notice. Availability, quality of coverage, technology, and services while roaming on maritime services aren’t guaranteed.

I’ve been using AT&T’s International Day Pass on land when traveling and it has come in clutch when going ashore, especially in European ports of call where we are walking around using my phone for on the spot walking direction and looking up points of interest. The service is also handy when you need to contact a third party tour operator. It will be interesting to see how the service works onboard the ships while eat sea. Especially, keeping an eye on when to switch to airplane mode if you wish to just use the 24-hour day pass on land at the lower price.

Wow, this is quite a change! I have mixed feelings-I love being disconnected while on a cruise, but will no longer have to keep a list of things to look up to solve family disputes (eg, which whale is the largest, what’s the diff between an alligator and a crocodile, etc-you know, the big debates 😆).
