Trip log, day six. At Sea.

Personal Navigator – Day 6

We are sailing through Windward Passage with Cuba to our port and Haiti on our starboard. The forecast was promising calling for a sunny day with a high of 75ºF. I spent the early part of the day walking around the upper decks taking in the sunrise and the morning view of Cuba while Emily went to the gym as usual.

Funnel Vision was running what I call the ‘clockworks screensaver.’ If anyone knows the official name or a better name, please let me know.

A few years ago, I posted a video of the similar screensaver from the Wish. I think I’ve recorded the Magic & Wonder, but I’m not entirely sure where that footage is at the moment. Anyway, below is a 20 minute loop of the Disney Treasures clockworks screensaver.

It was about time to settle into my cubicle for a few hours of labor.

Isabelle eventually joined me with the Aladdin puzzle which is coming along nicely. The Ravensburger puzzles are really nice quality. The lighting in my office is not ideal, but we’ve managed to work with the LED lantern and our cell phone lights.

For lunch, Emily & I went to Enchanté by ourselves for the final time! Next time we cruise with Disney, we can dine at the adult restaurants as a family! A full Enchanté lunch review is forthcoming. Seriously, I have the photos placed in a draft article as I type this trip log entry, but I will spoil the review now… We loved the lunch offering compared to dinner albeit nearly the same experience & price. For us, it comes down to the time of day. We do not eat late (even on vacation) and even with the earliest dinner reservations, it is too much food that late in the day for us. Enchanté continues to be absolutely fantastic.

On our way to meet Isabelle, we stopped to see what was playing on Funnel Vision. On sea days, when we do not have other plans, we often will lounge poolside before the first film begins and literally do nothing but watch the movie and read through until lunch, or the weather forces us elsewhere.

In an attempt to make up for ditching our daughter for lunch, we took her to Wheezy’s Freezies. She loves the Wheezy’s Freezies shirt we found previously on the Disney Wish and I wish the cruise line would offer more venue related merchandise. Somewhere in my wardrobe, I have a Crown & Fin shirt from the Disney Wonder and an O’Gills beer mug in the kitchen. I’m a mark for the subtle or obscure merchandise items.

Not really much going on this afternoon, aside from Bingo and trivia. Again, would have been a great opportunity to go to napkin/towel folding or Anyone Can Cook. Anyway, we stopped at Jade Cricket Café and picked up a Silk Road to go. The Silk Road is a well balanced cocktail made with Porcelain Shanghai Gin, Amaro Averna, garnished with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

We were back working on the puzzle at Skipper Society, when I causally looked inside the Haunted Mansion Parlour and spotted a couple of bar seats open, which was an obvious invitation from the Ghost Host to try the Hoppy Haunts beer.

Long exposure yields ghostly bartenders.

While we were getting ready for dinner, we watched the some of the AllState Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia.

Isabelle knocked out most of the puzzle this afternoon and we discovered, the room service trays are great to move a puzzle around the ship.

Tonight, we were returning to Worlds of Marvel to experience the all new/someone what interactive dinner experience.

In addition to a new dinner entertainment offering, the Disney Treasure features a second dinner menu called the Celebration of Heroes menu. The second Worlds of Marvel menu is not 100% new, there are some familiar items or variation of items found on the Animation Magic menu from Animators Palate, the Marvel Day at Sea menu, the Aloha Hawaii menu, and the ‘Til We Meet Again/Sea Ya Real Soon menus.

The dinner show/entertainment experience is low-key and non-intrusive with a few short announcements and scenes with Groot and Rocket.

The vertical screens across the restaurant feature trivia questions which you can answer at your table by pushing the corresponding color button on the Quantum Core. It reminds me of restaurant that had Trivia Pursuit cards on the table. Similar to Whose Line is it Anyway, points don’t matter because in this case, there are no points or a scoreboard. It was fun, and offered something to do between courses. You can see an example of the trivia and the Quantum Core interaction in the video below. The overall experience reminds me more of the Animator’s Palate shows with the entertainment casually occurring around you on the screens and not necessarily intrusive to your dinner experience. There are some popular Guardians of the Galaxy tunes incorporated into the experience.

After dinner, Isabelle met up with the Captain and a Voyager.

While our daughter was hanging out with the celebrities, we settled into a seat in Scat Cat Lounge. We did have to stand at the door and wait for a seat to open. It has been busy every time we’ve looked inside, but we were running out of time to try the one of the Bazaar Teas that was suggested to us. We ordered the Earl Grey tea which came with a Turkish delight and honey cubes on a swizzle stick. It was an enjoyable offering and these teas are ideal for sharing (or not – I won’t judge).

That wraps up our final sea day on this cruise. Tomorrow we will be in The Bahamas at Castaway Cay.
