The Goombay Cultural Center, the heart of Disney Lookout Cay, celebrates the rich history of The Bahamas and serves as a multi-use entertainment facility. The culture center primarily a gathering space where guests can learn about Bahamian traditions and make crafts with guidance from local artisans. Secondarily, the venue is a stage for the Junkanoo Rush-Out.
Activities held at the Goombay Cultural Center during the day will include a Sights & Sounds of Junkanoo Workshop curated by Miss Melinda from Southern Eleuthera allowing guests to learn more about the history, music, and costumes.
More than just a history lesson, the interactive workshop will include a making a Bahamian craft out of cardboard and cray paper making a headpiece to wear during RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration.
Junkanoo is a cultural celebratory experience that brings together Bahamians from all walks of life and is shared with guests across Lookout Cay, but especially at the Goombay Cultural Center. I cannot seem to fine a wide shot of the venue so I’m using the following image shared by Disney Cruise Line.
The stage area of the venue overlooks the Atlantic Ocean with an awning expanding out offering a break from the sun in the afternoon.
