When guest first step onto land in South Eleuthera, they will be welcomed into Mabrika Cove. Once through the security checkpoint, you can check in for a port adventure at Turbot Berth, grab a refreshing beverage at Mangroves & Go, purchase your first souvenir at the First and Last Chance Stand, walk over and rent a bicycle or, check-in for your day at the Mabrika Cove cabanas.
The majority of guests will be heading to the Mabrika Cove Tram Stop (A on the map) in order to board a courtesy tram for what is approximately a 1-mile trip from the Exuma Sound west coast to the Atlantic Ocean east coast of the Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point property.
During our visit, the tram ride was just shy of 10-minutes which has been condensed in the following video providing a look around Mabrika Cove and ending at the Goombay Cultural Center tram stop (B on the map).
For reference, it took me about 10-minutes to walk the across the pier from the ship. If I add in the time we spent looking around and taking some pictures around Mabrika Cove, I would estimate, it is roughly 30-minutes to go from the ship to the Goombay Cultural Center tram stop. I recommend taking a mental note of the timing of your morning commute and estimate when you will need to start heading back to the ship for all aboard time based on your plans ashore and the walking pace of your traveling party.
Can you walk from the Mabrika Cove tram stop to the Goombay Cultural Center tram stop? Well, on our visit, we were not permitted to walk as the roadway was not finished and the bike path was not ready for guest use.
The reason the bicycle paths were not open for guests at the time of opening, was that the paths needed additional time to cure before guests can safely ride on them. A portion of the Nature Trail was open, but it too needs additional time to cure before bikes can be ridden on them. There are some promising signs spotted along the tram route, which suggests walking may be permitted, however, context is key and without a greater understanding of the location of this sign I spotted in the video, it could very well be a cross walk area for the nature trail.
A timeline on the opening of the bicycle path and full Nature Trail has not been shared. For that matter, neither has information on a Lookout Cay 5k, which multiple guests sailing on the Disney Fantasy’s Inaugural Lookout Cay cruise reported they were told it will likely be offered in the future.
Check back soon as the next set of videos will focus on the various areas on the Atlantic Ocean side of Disney Lookout Cay at Castaway Cay.
