Disney Cruise Line Cancels January 2021 Cruises

Today, Disney Cruise Line announced the extension of their cruise suspension for sailings through January 2021 in line with other CLIA member cruise lines as the industry continues to work through the conditional sail order framework issued by the CDC. While the CDC didn’t get to extend the No Sail Order into February 2021, they basically found an alternative way to stall the gradual resumption with a laundry list of hurdles the cruise ships much conquer before welcoming guests back onboard.

As Disney Cruise Line remains focused on the health and well-being of their Guests and crew members. They continue to carefully review the guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and are working toward resuming operations.

As they continue to refine their protocols for our eventual return to service, Disney Cruise Line decided to cancel all sailings departing through January 2021. Sailings are cancelled on board the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder and Disney Dream through February 1 and the Disney Fantasy through February 6.

Guests booked on affected sailings who have paid their reservation in full will be offered the choice of a cruise credit to be used for a future sailing or a full refund. Guests who have not paid their reservations in full will automatically receive a refund of what they have paid so far. Affected Guests and travel agents will receive an email from Disney Cruise Line outlining details and next steps.

Our team at Disney Cruise Line remains focused on the health and well-being of our Guests and team members. We are carefully reviewing the guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and working toward resuming operations. As we continue to refine our protocols for our eventual return to service, we have decided to cancel all sailings departing through January 2021.

In light of this cancellation, we are offering affected Guests who have paid their reservation in full the choice of a 125% future cruise credit to be used for a future sailing prior to May 31, 2022, or a full refund. The credit has automatically been added to your account. Once you have decided on an alternate sail date, you may contact your travel agent. Your agent may place a reservation on hold for you by applying this credit as a payment option when booking a new reservation online. Guests that have not paid their reservations in full will automatically receive a refund of what they have paid so far.

*The Future Cruise Credit (FCC) is equal to 125% of your original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if applicable. The FCC is only valid for sailings departing prior to May 31, 2022. Your original reservation must be paid in full to be eligible for the FCC. The FCC is applied per person and is non-transferable, non-refundable and has no cash value. Standard prevailing rates apply and Guests are responsible for any balance due after the FCC has been applied. If you end up not being able to use the FCC, you will be eligible for a refund up to the amount of your original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if applicable. Standard cancellation policies and terms and conditions apply to future sailings. Guests who previously received a FCC are not eligible for an additional FCC.

Today, with this phase of cancellations of 24 cruises spanning 144 nights, Disney Cruise Line is approaching the 1 year mark for lost nights for two ships. To date, Disney has been forced to cancel 244 sailings losing total 1278 nights across the fleet. The Disney Dream will lose 81 sailings losing 295-nights, Disney Fantasy 56 sailings losing 329-nights, Disney Magic 53 sailings losing 310-nights, and the Disney Wonder 54 sailings losing 344-nights due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Please note, the Disney Magic and Disney Dream stats have been adjusted to show just lost revenue of passenger sailings. The actual number of nights is higher due to previously scheduled dry dock periods and a repositioning cruise where there were no passenger sailings.

I set up sailings for each ship for those interested in keeping track of the fleet during the temporary shutdown. The sailings will be updated daily with “at sea” set as the default for each day until we learn otherwise.

This latest announcement comes about two weeks after Disney Cruise Line cancelled all remaining December 2020 sailings on November 3rd.

While we are still evaluating the timing, when we return to sailing we will inform you of enhanced health and safety measures—for you, our other Guests, Cast and Crew Members. You will be required to follow all posted instructions while sailing with Disney Cruise Line.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and Guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

By sailing with Disney Cruise Line you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

    Need some help understanding my options. I booked 2 rooms for a 7 night trip sailing Feb. 27, 2021. One room is in cash. The second room is in DVC points (banked, current year, and borrowed). Can you help me understand what happens with my points if Disney cancels my cruise/ Also, do I get any added protection (other than my cancelling due to COVID)? This is a family trip and decision has been to wait and see what Disney is going to do.
