Last week, we received a tweet indicating the DVC reps on the Disney Dream were referring to the new builds as the Trident class.

Disney revealed the names of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy during the 2009 Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of shareholders. That was over 2 years before the launch of the Disney Dream. Given this timeline and when Disney Cruise Line would need to start selling the first batch of sailings, one could pencil in an announcement during the next shareholder’s annual meeting scheduled for March 7, 2019.

What do you think? Will the next ship will be named the Disney Triton, or is this just an internal project name until the next ship is officially named?

I think it is a project name, like RCCL used Project Genesis, Sunshine, etc.

I also think they won’t announce the new names until D23, but that is just me.

Pretty sure that the “Triton Class” is just the internal project name for the next fleet of ships The entertainment industry does a similar thing all the time for the early stages of a film (ie: Mary Lou = Avengers: Infinity War). Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next ship was named The Triton, that is a cool name for a new Disney ship!

I hope this is just a project name, and not the name of a new ship/class. I just don’t think “Triton” goes with the names/classes of the other ships, which all seem to be “Disney” words (or at least words that used to describe/refer to Disney). Of course, that won’t stop me from sailing on the new ships, regardless of their names!

I think Disney Triton would be an interesting name choice, but I was thinking they’d name them along the lines of Disney Enchantment, Disney Adventure, and the Disney Wishes.

I agree with previous comments: just a “placeholder”.
Disney is not one of soft releases of big stuff, and they wouldn’t be putting out the name of their new ship so quietly. Bring in the fireworks!!! Is more like it!
Also “trident” and “triton” share the “tri” part, which makes sense, since this class would be three sisters.
As long as the names don’t start with O, T and B, we are all good…

Disney Wish, Disney Imagination, Disney Adventure, Disney Spirit, Disney Enchantement, Disney Marvel, Disney Inspiration …

What Flo said. When they announced the first two, I immediately thought of Wish and Imagination as two possible names, then the third new ship was announced. If at least one of these names isn’t used, I’ll be surprised. The other names are great too. Triton is too much of a name departure for it to NOT be a project names, and when Disney announces things, they go whole hog, they don’t hold back. When the real names are announced, it’ll be front page cruise line news.

One thing to keep in mind is the ship initials, DM, DW, DD, DF, are often used. I’d imagine, Wish would be low on the list as it could potentially cause confusion with the Wonder.

I thought about that when they were renovating the Wonder, and the name of the new restaurant started being rumored. They need a different letter for the KttW… and then we ended up with Tr and Ti for dining venues so… who knows

All these ideas make it sound like the next three ships will have “Disney” names and not anything involving the new properties…Disney Force, Disney Avenger, Disney Infinity, Disney Muppet…people are probably correct, but let’s face it…eventually they might run out of good names.

Disney Wish is the name of the 1st of the 3 new ships, announced by Chairman Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Bob Chapek today at D23 Expo. Rapunzel is the stern character!
