Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Carioca’s Closing Prior to Dry Dock – Cabanas Will Serve as a Temporary MDR

Earlier today, Disney Cruise Line revealed plans for enhancements to the Disney Magic during an early 2018 dry dock. One of the major enhancements was Rapunzel’s Royal Table, an immersive dinning experience similar to that of Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder. Disney Cruise Line left out details on which of the three Disney Magic restaurant venues would make way for Rapunzel’s takeover. However, it was no mystery, it was Carioca’s.

In a round about way, Disney Cruise Line confirmed this with the latest news that Carioca’s will be closing early for refurbishment as it seems like Disney will need more than the two week dry dock to transform Carioca’s into Rapunzel’s Royal Table aboard the Disney Magic.

Emails are being sent to travel agents with guests The email states, Carioca’s will be unavailable during their sailing as the ares is being refurbished. As a result, Cabanas will come to life with enhanced entertainment nightly as one fo the evening dinner experiences with two open seating periods that coincide with main and second seating.

So far, we’ve learned this email is being sent to travel agents with clients and guests booked on the following sailings leading up to the February 23rd dry dock:

Below is a copy of the email for the 2/18 cruise shared with us by StorybookDestinations.com.

DCL TA Letter Cariocas Closing EmailAs of now, Carioca’s will close one cruise prior to dry dock to allow for the planned transformation into Rapunzel’s Royal Table. We will provide an update if any additional sailings are impacted by the refurbishment.

I’m really glad that Cariocas is done for. I get that Disney wanted something different other than Parrot Cay (RIP, cream of mango and papaya soup), but Cariocas wasn’t their strong suit. When I had a birthday aboard the Magic, my dinner was, unfortunately, held in this MDR. Nothing on the menu impressed me. I ended up ordering food from Animator’s and Triton’s that night. Guess Disney took a cue from Tiana’s on the Wonder and saw how popular that was. Makes me wonder if they’re going to do other princess-themed restaurants for the Fantasy/Dream (Enchanted Garden is getting tired, DCL), and/or if they’re doing it for the new ships, too. I wouldn’t mind seeing Belle’s, Ariel’s, Megara’s (complete with gyros and other amazing Greek food), and Mulan’s.

The Mango Soup is available on the Dream in Lumiers? or was it Tritons (airel)? no that was on the Wonder, Ariels Father has an MDR on the Wonder. I had the Mango Soup in the Big Fancy MDR just off the Atrium. As for Enchanted Garden… You think it is getting tired? I have only been in that room once and it was so beautiful. and Enchanted Garden is only on the Dream right? So you are wanting something changed for the DREAM but complaining about the MAGIC? I’m confused.

Both the Dream and Fantasy share Enchanted Garden. The menu and dining rooms there are boring/tired and nothing there catches my eye to eat that I normally wouldn’t have. The mango soup isn’t the same as the cream of mango and papaya. I was explaining my frustration that I was upset that they did away with Parrot Cay, and that I hated Cariocas. BTW, Triton’s is on the Magic, not the Wonder.
