Disney Wonder Ends Dry Dock and Departs Cadiz – Just Over 2 Weeks Until Her Debut in Texas

Over the weekend, the Disney Wonder returned to the sea when the Navantia dry dock was flooded then repositioned to an adjacent pier. Captain Gus along with crew and contractors took time late last week to snap the traditional end of dry dock photos near the props.

Below are a few photos of the water rushing into the dry dock.

In the photo below you can see the propulsion work that was completed during her time out of water.

Finally, I put together a short video of sorts tracking the Disney Wonder on MarineTraffic.com as she departs Cadiz, spends some time doing sea trials and sails to Lisbon.

USA Today’s Gene Sloan was in Cadiz and published this video with a look at some of the new spaces.

Disney posted a similar video with most if not all the same b-roll.

There was a lot of quick looks in that video. Below are some screenshots broken down by re-imagined space.

After Hours

First up a look inside Azure which in the video showed b-roll of Fathoms on the Disney Magic.

AquaLab

The Twist N Spout Slide is in place above the AquaLab which I suspect will look very similar to the version added to the Magic in 2013.

That does it for the screenshots. Oh wait, you wanted to see the Disney Wonder’s new chandelier… Well, it wasn’t in the video, but it ended up in my inbox last week. I think I’m in love, but am holding final judgement until I see it in person. What are your first impressions?

Oh, one more thing… Here are some photos that ended up in my inbox over the duration of the dry dock.

The Disney Wonder is expected to leave Lisbon and make her way to Port Canaveral, tentatively arriving in Florida at the beginning of November based on a previously published port calendar.

Great update, neat to see the scale of the crew next to the propellers. My wife and I are excited for our first cruise (of any kind!) aboard the Wonder for next year’s Eastbound Panama Canal Halloween trip!

You will love it, did Panama cruise over Halloween 2015, amazing experience, we are repeating Panama only in reverse May 2017, loving the long sailings!!

Kate, I believed I heard rumblings the new Wonder chandelier is a new Chihuly creation. I suspect the reason the Magic & Wonder lost the original was do to sight lines from the upper decks. Make the chandelier smaller then makes the atrium space feel more open.

Neat chandelier with the Red… kinda like Ariel’s hair? Writing (speaking) of which, it looks like the Ariel statue has been moved and there are new handrails, so the starboard staircase must be finally gone.

I am on the first sailing out of Galveston. I cannot wait! I too really like the new chandelier – so much better than the one on the Disney Magic in my opinion. It looks like Chihuly to me. I hope it is! Thanks for sharing!~

I like what I see of the new chandelier – I am really not fond of the re-imagined one on the Magic so I’m glad they went a different way with this one.

I agree the new chandelier looks way nicer than the Magic one in my opinion. Still disappointed that no Aquadunk or something like it was added, oh well I still look forward to sailing on her to enjoy the changes.

Given that the Wounder spends a lot of time in cold weather, I am hoping DCL did more changes to provide more outside space that will be better utilized during the Alaska cruises.

Many of the beds on The Wonder were changed out during much of the 2015/2016 season, I know in 2015 we sailed on a 5 night Western Caribbean trip in Feb and were on Deck 7 in a Verandah room and they had installed the new Queen HIGH bed that lets you put luggage and other things under the bed for storage, in addition they had some rooms on Deck 5 & 6 closed off as they were refurbishing them during the trip. The only info I saw during the drydock was that they were redoing the Concierge rooms as they are unable to do it during sailings since they’re so few and so popular they can’t get access to them except during a refit like this.

Great pictures & update, Scott. Do you know anything about Captain Gus? I haven’t heard of him before. I’m assuming he’ll be our captain. 29 days till we sail!!!

Thanks Scott… didn’t realize you had this on your site. I am e-mailing you the bio info I got on the staff board in 2014 for Captain John Barwis so you can add it in.

Sally & Dustin… We will be sailing for 2 weeks, back to back, so I’m glad we’ll have a good captain. Captain Fabian has been our favorite and we were hoping he’d be back on the Wonder when we sail next month, but now I’m looking forward to meeting Captain Gus!
