Disney Dream October 3, 2016 Sailing Changed to a Western Caribbean to Avoid Hurricane Matthew

Disney Cruise Line announced an itinerary change due to Hurricane Matthew. The Disney Dream will embark from Port Canaveral on Monday, October 3, 2016 on a 4-Night Western Caribbean cruise instead of a 4-Night Bahamian Cruise as Hurricane Matthew is forecasted to move through the Bahamas.

The altered Disney Dream itinerary is as follows:

  • October 3 – Port Canaveral
  • October 4 – Day at Sea
  • October 5 – Cozumel, Mexico
  • October 6 – Day at Sea
  • October 7 – Port Canaveral Florida

The Disney Magic’s October 2nd Canadian Coastline cruise and the current Disney Fantasy 7-Night Western remains unchanged at this time.

This sailing will be the Disney Dream’s first Western Caribbean cruise and October 5th go in the history books as her inaugural visit to Cozumel.

We are scheduled to leave for the 3 night cruise on the Dream on Friday. Anyone have any insight into whether Disney could change the port of departure, how they would change the intinerary, or cancel it all together??

We are scheduled to get on the Dream on Friday, should be an interesting ride into the Caribbean to say the least. Anticipate the storm further north and hopefully way off short by then, but I imagine it’ll definitely be an interesting ride. Thurs afternoon – hopefully Matthew stays EAST offshore.

Hey David, we just got off the Dream last Monday. It was stormy over Cast Away Cay so we only got 2 hours on it. I have been through a Tropical Storm on the Fantasy, easy. Alittle rocky but fun.

Its great they are going to alter course. However, has anyone thought that the scheduled arrival is about the same time the Hurricane will be off the Florida coast.

I am MR. weather nerd, lol. But not I see that both ships are due in about the same time as the storm. Matthew is a slow mover. The Captain(s) will be earning their pay this week.

We missed CC last year for Joachim and got back a VERY small amount for port taxes or something like that. I think less than $20 per person. Maybe even single digits. Small enough to not remember!

Same here. I find it VERY unlikely something won’t change. I think best bets are either we go around the hurricane and take an extra day and miss Nassau (and hopefuly not Castaway Cay, too), or we go to Canada instead.

Chris A – looking forward to “rough” seas, makes it a bit interesting and going through end of a storm – weather nerd at heart. But of course, bigger picture is hopefully everyone is safe. Latest looks like we can fly into FL on Thursday so as long as I can get there – should be good to go!!!

I don’t mind a bit of rocking and rolling on the ships but this could get a bit scary, Best wishes to all that you don’t miss a cruise and are safe at sea.

not to detract from the original topic but i wouldn’t mind if they offered this itinerary in the future normally. I hope everyone on the cruise has a safe trip and that CC is spared
