Disney Infinity Reveals Disney Cruise Line Ship and Castaway Cay at the D23 Expo

During Sunday’s Disney Infinity session at the 2015 D23 Expo, the in game graphics for the Disney Cruise Dreamship and Castaway Cay Toy Box were revealed. Disney Infinity will head to sea this October aboard the Disney Dream following her dry dock enhancements. DCL previously announced a new Disney Infinity area would be added to the Oceaneer Club. The new space, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, will feature Disney Infinity game kiosks and interactive environments. Kids sailing on the Dinsey Dream will be able to unlock the Dreamship and the Castaway Cay Toybox for use back at home via Youth Activities Oceaneer Bands (MagicBands).D23 Disney Infinity DCL Dreamship Castaway Cay Toybox Unlockables

The announcement comes around the 5 minute mark of the video below by YouTube user DisneylandExperience.

Special activities will bring the virtual gameplay experience to life in the real world. For example, a life-sized Disney Infinity Base sets the stage where children take the place of character figures for a group gaming experience unlike any other. Lighting up in response to gameplay on a large screen, this interactive floor will allow kids to be immersed in the Toy Box.

I guess they wanted to find a way to get people to actually keep those bands. We have always returned ours to avoid the charge (isn’t it like $15?).

I considered writing this in the post, but I wanted to see how it was actually handled once rolled out. I hope they have an alternate method for guests who do not want to purchase the band at the end of the cruise.

Any chance this is them showing their hand to magic bands coming fully online on the Dream? With the dry dock coming up, it would seem to make sense.

I do not think so considering Oceaneer Bands are already standard in the Lab & Club. WDW MagicBands open up content on Disney Infinity so this is just an extension of that.

Clearly I did my cruising schedule backwards taking the Dream in 2015 and Wonder in 2016.

Now does anyone know if Infinity 3.0 will be available for the DSi? That’s the one my kids have.

Only for PlayStation (3 and 4), Nintendo WiiU, Microsoft XBOX (360 and One) and AppleTV 4G (other platforms like the PC, Android and Apple Phones also have the game, but they doesn´t use the special base that reads the data from the magic band to enjoy the castaway cay theme)

I’m hoping that the band from any ship will unlock the content. Guess we’ll have to see. It might be easy to check once Infinity 3.0 comes out. Anyone who has a band now can try to scan it and see if it unlocks it or not.

Does anyone know if you have to anything special to unlock the ship? My son put his band on it the ship is locked and says it’s not available to purchase.

What kinds of things unlock? What is the cost to purchase the band? Last time we sailed it didn’t look anything like a magic band and they gave us a heavy handed warning about paying for it if we take it or lose it.
