Port of Galveston Welcomes the Magic with a “Sail-A-Bration”

Saturday September 22, 2012 will be a big day for the Port of Galveston as the [Disney_Magic] arrives for the very first time.  The port is planning a Sail-A-Bration to allow non-passengers the the opportunity to celebrate the inaugural Galveston sailing.  The Magic is expected to sail into the port around 7 AM local time, and the Port is allowing the public to gather on Pier 26 from 7 AM to 11 AM for a dockside view.  This is a unique opportunity, as this area is typically off limits to the public when ships are in port.

“We’re opening up Pier 26 so people will be a little closer down on the waterfront than they normally would when the ships are here,” Port Director Mike Mierzwa said. “It should be fun for people who want to come down and see the ship leave.”

The “Sail-A-Bration” is scheduled from 3 PM to 5:30 PM and will include games, a Radio Disney DJ, and a raffle for a pair of tickets to October 30,  2012 Justin Bieber concert in Houston.  Proceeds from the raffle will benefit The United Way.

Saturday’s forecast for Galveston is Sunny with a high of 87.  Be sure if you are heading out to welcome the Magic to take your sunscreen, and drink plenty of water.

Are headed down for the Sail-A-Bration?  We would love to hear about your experience.
