A Look at the Enhancements Aboard the Re-imagined Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder is fresh out of an extensive 2016 dry dock and will soon arrive in Galveston, Texas. Disney has provided us with an extensive look at some of the new spaces that were transformed during her time in Cadiz, Spain. It may appear obvious, but it is worth pointing out these are Disney’s and for lack of better words… staged.

I have no real order to present the photos so I will start with After Hours, the all new adult district that replaced Route 66. Diversions was transformed into an English tavern called Crown & Fin Pub. The bar serves cocktails and beer including one made especially for the bar.

The adult district includes a brand-new pub that invites guests to take a jaunt to an authentic English tavern. Crown & Fin Pub dons dark woods, plush leather furniture and brass accents that are reminiscent of a friendly neighborhood pub. A selection of British and specialty beers create the perfect pub atmosphere, where adult guests can sip a pint or cocktail, or sample a brew made especially for the pub.

Observant guests may discover this is no ordinary pub. Subtle nods to classic Disney films set in London can be found in artwork, props and other bits ‘n bobs throughout the space. Brilliant stories of all sorts will be celebrated at the pub, whether those tales be true, tall or flat-out mad.

Since Cadillac Lounge was just refreshed we are skipping that and moving over to the nightclub, Azure. The venue has a similar look and feel as it’s sister, Fathoms on the Disney Magic.

Moving along in alphabetical order, the Disney Wonder’s new asymmetric atrium. Although Disney didn’t provide a overview photo or even one of the chandelier, we will borrow from Instagram to show the before and after view of the staircase removal.

The repositioning of the statue enables photos such as this one with Captain Mickey and First Mate Minnie while maintaining an entrance to Tritons.

With the removal of the second starboard staircase there is more room for other things like getting First Mate Minnie’s autograph or for use as a stage for and evening performance by The Dreamers.

Is it getting cold on the Disney Wonder? Of course it is, Frozen, A Musical Spectacular replaced Toy Story The Musical. An innovative combination of traditional theatrical techniques, modern technology and classic Disney whimsy bring to the animation hit to the Walt Disney Theatre stage.

The exclusive Frozen fun continues aboard the Disney Magic in the new Oceaneer Club Spaces. Frozen Adventures is where fun takes the form of imaginative play and hands-on activities. On the digital screen, Olaf leads summery games with a wintery twist and a sing-a-long of “In Summer.” In another festive activity, young guests prepare for a coronation and receive a truly royal and in-person visit by Anna and Elsa.

Over in Club Disney Junior, Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First will make appearances during select activities posted in the Personal Navigators. Club Disney Junior features favorite Disney Junior characters, storytelling and games. During one activity, Doc McStuffins pays a visit to the club to help children diagnose and treat the stuffed animals.

Marvel Super Hero Academy rounds out the Oceaneer Club’s new spaces. The Marvel universe comes to life in Marvel Super Hero Academy. Here, young guests can train to develop the brave and adventurous heroes inside themselves. It’s an exciting addition to Disney’s Oceaneer Club, the engaging and interactive space just for children. Exclusively on the Disney Wonder, Marvel Super Hero Academy offers extraordinary adventures in which each young guest plays an integral role. With the mentorship of some of Marvel’s greatest Super Heroes, young trainees learn the value of teamwork, bravery and problem solving through hands-on play and programs.

Based on early marketing efforts by DCL, the academy will be anchored by Spider Man. In one mission, Spider-Man appears in person to help children hone their spider senses by perfecting their skills of reflex, speed and sharp minds. Children work on their web-slinging and then get to see themselves in the headlines of the Daily Bugle.

Captain America will be splitting his time training between the Disney Magic’s Marvels Avengers Academy and the Disney Wonder’s Marvel Super Hero Academy. Marvelís greatest Super Heroes mentor young guests to develop the brave and adventurous heroes inside them. Good thing they can land Quinjets on the bow.

My daughter is going to lose her mind when I share the next bit of news with her… BLACK WIDOW will be appearing along with some OTHER UNAMED Marvel greats mentoring young guests to develop the brave and adventurous heroes inside them at the Marvel Super Hero Academy.

The high-tech command post is also where other Marvel Super Heroes interact with children via a large digital display, helping them unleash their inner heroes. In one program, kids can control the movement of a character on screen to practice super skills like repulsor blasting.

Throughout the academy, displays feature equipment that helps make Marvel Super Heroes the mightiest in the universe.

Rounding out the look at the re-imagined Disney Wonder we finish with the letter T and Tiana’s Place. Exclusive to the Disney Wonder, Tiana’s Place is inspired by Princess Tiana from the Disney animated feature, The Princess and the Frog. The new restaurant replacing g Parrot Cay, transports guests to an era of southern charm, spirited jazz and street party celebrations. Influenced by southern-style cuisine, chefs cook up Tianaís recipes, drawing inspiration from the flavors and ingredients of the Louisiana bayou. During the rotational dinner seating guest will be entertained with a live performance and an appearance by Tiana!

Late last week we shared a look at the debut menu for Tiana’s Place and now we have some mouth watering photos of the food, starting with the Cajun Spiced Sea Bass on Shrimp Jambalaya with crisp Fennel Salad and Rémoulade. Looks delicious, I really hope I can order without the shrimp. Silly shellfish allergy and all.

Making up for the lack of gumbo on the dinner menu is the first dessert at Tiana’s Place. Tiana’s Buttermilk Beignets dusted with powdered sugar and served with chocolate espresso dipping sauce. I hear they are the bee’s knees and the talk of the Disney Wonder.

Lovely pictures, obviously the media crew shown in other pictures who were on board during the shakedown cruises were making advertising shots for the upcoming season. I wished they had shown more people less shots of all the newly redone spaces so we could get a good idea what was done during the re-fit. Still great shots nonetheless.

Thank you for the great post Scott! Too funny about the staged pictures. When they first started talking about Tiana’s Place I pictured her in her green dress but I guess the flapper dress makes more sense for the restaurant. Looks like fun!

I hope they have Black Widow on the Marvel Day on the Magic. It’s a little annoying that some of those characters are only available for the kids!! 🙂
