Disney Channel Star Jenna Ortega, returns with the latest Disney Cruise Line Behind the Waves video focused on the DCL’s commitment to recycling. In this video, we get an inside look at the behind the scenes recycling process which begins with passengers and crew using the appropriate recycling receptacles on deck and in the staterooms. Below deck, crew members carefully double check to make sure the materials are properly separated. So, don’t worry if you accidentally toss a plastic water bottle into the can bin – just don’t make it a habit as it is extra work. Once the recyclables are separated they are compressed for easy storage and taken offshore to complete the recycling process. Disney estimates they eliminate 325 tons of trash each year through there recycling program.
In addition to recycling traditional materials, the used cooking oil is offloaded in Nassau to power a fleet of Bahamas Waste Management vehicles.

Great initiatives. I would like to see them look at reducing the waste from the cups at the drink stations too.
Heather, this is defiantly a big area of waste, but it is a result of the rules set in place to prevent the spread of germs. Only new cups are to be used at the drink station to prevent the potential spread of disease from a used cup if it were to transfer back to the soda machine. Even if you are using a Tervis they ask you to use a new disposable cup to fill your tumbler. One solution would be to offer guests plastic cups like they use in Cabanas or the pool bars that could then be rewashed eliminating the waste.
I would suggest DCL put recycle bins in staterooms and in other locations by trash cans on the ship as I really hate throwing items that are recycled in the trash can.
The stateroom trash cans are separated into 2 compartments, one for trash, the other for recyclables. As for the trash cans elsewhere on the ship, the recyclables will still get separated out.
