Personal Navigators: 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Halloween Cruise from Port Canaveral – September 24, 2016

Personal Navigators, and other handouts from the Halloween on the High Seas 7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise from Port Canaveral. The Disney Fantasy set sail from Port Canaveral on September 24, 2016. There are additional Personal Navigators from other sailings of this same itinerary for comparison. During this cruise, the ship was under the control of Captain Fabian Dib.

The voyage was altered to avoid impacts of a tropical storm which developed into Hurricane Matthew. Rather than calling on St Thomas on 9/28, the Disney Fantasy spend the day at sea sailing towards Castaway Cay. This sailing did feature the full navigators each day and even though St Thomas was skipped, the original navigator is included for future planning purposes. The St Thomas day schedule was altered as Taylor Mason was unable to board, so Magic Dave filled in.

We were on this sailing. I didn’t know for sure if missing St. Thomas had anything to do with what became Hurricane Matthew. It’s good to know that now. I’m so glad we cruised last week and not this week! We had some rougher (but not too rough) seas with whitecaps, but I didn’t see or hear about a lot of people being sick. We were in Cabanas when the Captain made the announcement about missing St. Thomas. I was surprised that people seemed to take it in stride. Although, I heard later that there were a lot of people who were very upset. No port is ever guaranteed though and this is definitely a greater risk we take for sailing in hurricane season. Magic Dave certainly went above and beyond to continue filling in shows! All in all, it was a magical trip and we booked the same week next year on board! °o° 353 days until we’re home again!

We were on the Disney Fantasy last year and we’re stuck in Hurricane Joaquin. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or just bad luck but the last week of September doesn’t seem like a good time to cruise.

Cruising during hurricane season is always a gamble. We were supposed to be on the sailing last year that dealt with Joaquin. Very glad we dodged that bullet. I hope it wasn’t too bad for you guys. I don’t think I’d want to be out there now either. The Fantasy is in Jamaica, which is dealing with the outer bands of Matthew. I wonder if they will follow course and sail east of Jamaica up to Castaway Cay. I know I’ll be watching the Port Canaveral webcam tomorrow and Friday to see what the weather is like. Lucky for us in Virginia, Matthew is forecasted to take a big turn east and pretty much miss us now.
