I hate to report this Scott but this was by far the worse food and service we have ever had on a Disney cruise. Our stateroom host was stupendous as always but the servers were like they just picked them up in Vancouver for this cruise. The food was very subpar for a Disney cruise and on more than one occasion we didn’t even eat it. That has never happened to us before.
Our first port adventure was at Skagway and we were told to be at the Walt Disney Theater at 7am. Breakfast didn’t start until 6:30am and when we got there at 6:35 there was probably 30~40 people waiting and the doors had not opened yet. So we woofed our food down and hurried down to the theater only to wait until 8am before we left the ship. Really disorganized.
All in all we had a great time but I cannot give Disney any credit for that. Our port adventure in Juneau had a grilled Salmon dinner included and was the best Salmon we have ever ate and our PA in Ketchikan had a dinner that included all of the crab legs you could eat which again were the best crab legs we had ever had. Both of these meals were hands down better than anything we had onboard the ship.
I hope they do better for you on your Europe trip. By the way our room 6138 a Navigator room was like brand new. No complaints there. Everything in it was like they had just installed it before got on board.
Bill, no need to apologize. You paid for a premium product and have all the right in the world to be disappointed with subpar service and food. I do hope you left a note along with your end of cruise survey so things can be addressed for the remainder of the summer.
We had the opposite opinion of the cruise – we found it to be well organized and the staff was experienced. We had TAPTAPT rotation (first seating). Our server was on his 6th contract. The food was as good as any other cruise. Palo was excellent, both for dinner and for brunch. We only had one PA through Disney and only waited in the Theater for 20 minutes. We took breakfast in the buffet area for most mornings.
We loved Alaska and we loved this Disney Cruise!

why was my comment removed?
Ed, I am just now approving the pending comments from earlier today. I just approved one of yours from 12:02PM, but I did not delete any of your comments.
Ahhh – I saw it disappear for a while and then show up again later. All is good now. (Feel free to remove all this chatter about comments.)
ps: I’m a huge fan of this site – you’ve done a fantastic job.
Is that the normal dining rotation (TAPTAPT) regardless of which one you begin (i.e. you might have APTAPTA or PTAPTAP)? We have requested Triton’s for formal night so I assume we will have PTAPTAP as our rotation if they can honor our request. This is our first time on the Wonder and to Alaska. Can’t wait for 8/24/15! (BTW….a different Bill B from the person that posted earlier!)
I’m not sure if that is “normal” or not, as we didn’t compare notes with anyone else about the rotation. I’m a keep-it-simple person, so I would assume it follow that arrangement. All of our cruises have followed the same, repeating pattern. I don’t recall if we have always rotated in the same order and direction on each cruise.
About the food, I will certainly say skip the salmon on the ship. It is not sourced locally and it is NOT nearly as good as anything you will get on an excursion. I can still taste the grilled salmon and Alaska Amber Ale on Colt Island (“Best of Juneau”).
Sad to see Koda and Kenai are no longer making appearances on the Alaska cruises.
So Bill, what were the two excursions where you had such great food??? Next May will be our first Alaska cruise (12th DCL cruise). Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.
Just back from Alaska cruise. We also had a weak server and assistant server – our 5th Disney cruise so this was disappointing – didn’t seem focused on the job or the guest. Thought food was excellent, entree portions at dinner were large, while vegetable side dishes were skimpy. The grilled salmon at Beach Blanket on Tracy Arm day was outstanding! Aside from disappointing server, overall cruise was
great! Anyone who has sailed on the Wonder before will find the cabin refresh is a big improvement.
We did the Alaska cruise last summer. It was excellent. Our friends want to go this time, so we are doing it again. We had wonderful servers and have requested to have them again since we are in the same room we had last summer. Our only complaint was the really bad eggs and bacon at breakfast. The eggs taste like those from a can and the bacon is thin and just plain not good. We resorted to cereal and fruit instead. We did not wait long for our excursions. Although we did have a bus driver on the Best of Skagway tour that turned on the AC on a cold morning to clear the windows and thought we might have difficulty breathing at the high elevation. Excuse me, that was about the dumbest comment. I would rather Disney did their own excursions. They would do a much better job.
We went on the DVC member only cruise to Alaska (May 25-June 1), and everything was excellent! Our servers were attentive (we had first seating) and our stateroom hostess was amazing. I would do this cruise again, no matter what!
