Tropical Update: Tropical Storm Bertha Formed Late Last Night 8/1/2014

11 PM Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Continues Across the Northeastern Caribbean Sea

Tropical Storm Bertha is approximately 180 miles southeast of St Croix moving west-northwest at 22 mph. Maximum sustained winds remain at 50 mph with TS force wind extending outward, mainly to the north and east the center to 115 miles. A weather station in Guadalupe recorded a wind gust of 37 mph.

The forecast shows TS Bertha to move across the northeastern Caribbean Sea overnight. Bertha will pass near Puerto Rico on Saturday and eastern Dominican Republic Saturday night. Sunday, TS Bertha is expected to approach the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands. The official forecast track continues to show Bertha moving into the Atlantic early next week.

Although Bertha remains in a area that is unfavorable for any additional strengthening based on data collected by a recon flight by the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters she is now forecast to briefly reach hurricane status early next week over the open Atlantic waters.

8 PM Intermediate Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Moving Into Northeastern Caribbean Sea

Tropical Storm Bertha is approximately 40 miles west-southwest of Dominica moving west-northwest at 24 mph. Maximum sustained winds remain at 50 mph with TS force wind extending outward, mostly to the northeast from the center to 115 miles. A weather station in Dominica recorded a wind gust of 43 mph.

The forecast shows TS Bertha to move across the northeastern Caribbean Sea tonight. Bertha will approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday. Sunday, TS Bertha is expected to approach the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands. The official forecast track continues to show Bertha moving into the Atlantic early next week.

5 PM Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Passing Northern Bemuda

Tropical Storm Bertha is approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort de France, Martinique moving west-northwest at 24 mph. Maximum sustained winds remain at 50 mph with TS force wind extending outward, mostly to the northeast from the center to 115 miles. A weather station in Guadalupe recorded max winds of 35 mph with a gust of 52 mph.

The southeastern Bahamas are now under a tropical storm watch as well as Turks and Caicos.

The forecast shows TS Bertha to move away from Barbados over the next few hours into the northeastern Caribbean Sea tonight. Bertha will approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday. Sunday, TS Bertha is expected to approach the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos islands. The official forecast track continues to show Bertha moving into the Atlantic early next week.

2 PM Intermediate Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Approaching Martinique

Tropical Storm Bertha is approximately 45 miles east of Martinique moving west-northwest at 22 mph. Maximum sustained winds have remain at 50 mph with TS force wind extending outward, mostly to the northeast from the center to 115 miles.

A tropical storm warning for St Lucia has been discontinued.

The forecast shows TS Bertha to pass north of Barbados over the next few hours and continue into the northeastern Caribbean Sea tonight. Bertha will approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday. The official forecast track cone continues to show Bertha moving into the Atlantic early next week.

11 AM Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Slightly Stronger

According to reports from the Hurricane Hunters Tropical Storm Bertha is slightly stronger, but is disorganized. TS Bertha is approximately 150 miles east-southeast of Martinique moving west-northwest at 21 mph. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 50 mph with TS force wind extending outward, mostly to the northeast of the center to 115 miles. Upper-level atmospheric conditions are not currently favorable for any additional strengthening.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for Eastern Dominican Republic from Cabo Engano to Isla Saona. All warnings and watches for Barbados, St Vincent, and the Grenadines have been discontinued.

The forecast shows TS Bertha to pass north of Barbados over the next few hours and continue through the Central Lesser Antilles tonight. Bertha will approach the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday. The official forecast track cone continues to show Bertha moving into the Atlantic early next week.

8 AM Intermediate Update | Tropical Storm Bertha Still on Track

TS Bertha continues to move west-northwest at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are extending outward 45 miles. The system is presently located about 110 miles east of Barbados.

The growing list of areas under a tropical storm warning has increased with France’s issuing for one for Martinique.

Hurricane Hunters are currently investigating the system and should provide some using data for the 11 AM update.

The Disney Fantasy is at Castaway Cay on her final day of a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise well out of the reach of Bertha. The Disney Fantasy is scheduled to embark on a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise tomorrow staying well away from TS Bertha. The Disney Dream is in Nassau today and Castaway Cay tomorrow before return to Port Canaveral on Sunday. Based on on the latest forecast tracks, Tropical Storm Bertha looks to stay east of the Bahamas in the Atlantic Ocean.

5 AM Update | TS Bertha Continues Toward Lesser Antilles – TS Warnings Issued for Puerto Rico & Adjacent Islands

TS Bertha is moving west-northwest at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are extending outward 45 miles. The system is presently located about 170 miles east of Barbados.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culbera, US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands.

2 AM Intermediate Update | TS Bertha Moving Toward the Lesser Antilles

TS Bertha is moving west-northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are extending outward 45 miles. The British Virgin Islands are now under a tropical storm watch.

July 31, 2014 11 PM | Invest 93L Develops into Tropical Storm Bertha

The are of interest in the Atlantic Ocean which we have been watching for the last few days developed into the second named storm of the season after almost loosing momentum. Tropical Storm Bertha emerged east of the Southern Lesser Antilles with Tropical Storm warnings issued for Barbados, Dominica, and St Lucia. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Puerto Rico, Viequess, Culebra, US Virgin Islands, & St Vincent and the Grenadines.

TS Bertha is moving west-northwest at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph which were observed during the Hurricane Hunter’s recon flight. Tropical Storm force winds are extending outward 45 miles.
