Embarkation Day Special: Free 50MB Internet Data Package Offer

Disney Cruise Line quietly started to offer a free 50 MB Internet data package to passengers on embarkation day during select sailings. According to a tweet from ToaDs Travels, the introductory offer (my words) is currently available on the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder with a rollout to the Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic in the coming weeks.

According to the offer listed in the Personal Navigator guests can signup for a free 50 MB Internet package between noon and midnight on embarkation day. The data allotment will be good for the duration of the sailing and is limited to one free package per stateroom. See the complete offer below which was listed in the June 2nd Personal Navigator from the Disney Wonder’s first 7-night Alaskan cruise of 2014.

It is not clear if this is a temporary offer to entice cruisers to try the data plans, or a preverbal carrot to get people to share real time Disney Cruise vacation moments with friends and family on land. Either way, it is a win for cruise guests! If you are interested, check your Personal Navigator once you are onboard to see if it is offered on your particular sailing, who knows you may be one of the first to experience this on the Magic & Fantasy.

This is fantastic! I’ll be on the Magic in the Mediterranean shortly and this will certainly meet our needs while aboard! THANK YOU for the heads up. 🙂

We did the 1-gig ($89) package while on the Fantasy in May and didn’t use 100meg of it due to the slow speed of the service. I’ll do the free package if it’s still available in November but I will not pay for it again. I can see why nobody signed up for the service when it was based on minutes.

We just got off the Dream (6/5-6/8) and we were offered the free 50 MB. We used a whopping 12 MB of it. For the most part, I was GLAD to be disconnected for a few days, but I could see where it would be nice to clear out the inbox occassionally on longer sailings. I came home to a couple hundred emails!

Just returned from 14 days on the Wonder. Had what we called leaky Internet. Email would come through and we could send email out without signing up and paying a dime. Not sure if that is because we didn’t sign up for anything or something else. Just email. No fb, Web etc. Even the crew were perplexed. We were wondering if this leaky Internet was a feature or some sort of bug related to not signing up for anything (therefore they didn’t have a way to tag the device)

Well, you do not have to sign up for anything for cellular at sea – your provider will simply bill you based on that usage. Of course if this was on wifi only devices, then definitely was an issue…

I just came off the Disney Fantasy, June 7th-14th and this was offered on the first day of the cruise. I took advantage of it and was able to finish my work by using 46MB–the service however, is incredibly slow and spotty at best.
