Disney Cruise Line Announces Fall 2015 Itineraries Featuring a Return to Hawaii and Texas

Disney Cruise Line released the fall 2015 itineraries today, confirming the ongoing rumors of a return to Hawaii on the Disney Wonder. Also making news today, is the announcement that the Disney Wonder will return to Galveston in the fall of 2015. The Disney Fantasy will offer four sailings to Tortola, and the Disney Dream appears to head to dry dock in late September 2015.  Disney Cruise Line will be returning to popular destinations and homeports for a series of limited time itineraries. Gold and Platinum bookings will go on sale May 20th followed by the general public on Wednesday May 21, 2014. One interesting fact about the latest itinerary release is that only the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy will be sailing from Port Canaveral reducing the number of sailings guests could potential add on to pre or post Walt Disney World vacations. Cruise Director Natalie provided a overview in the following video.

Disney Wonder Fall 2015 Sailings

Vancouver Sailings

The Disney Wonder sailings will return to Hawaii with two special 10-night cruises in September. The Disney Wonder will sail through the breathtaking beauty of the Hawaiian Islands, where guests can experience the famous beaches of Waikiki on Oahu, see the views from high atop the summit of Haleakala Crater on Maui, take in the lush tropical gardens and waterfalls of Kauai and, on Hawaii Island — the Big Island, explore the natural wonders of the world’s most active volcano. Rates start at $1,650 per person for 10-night Hawaii cruises for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

There is 7-night gap as a result of a missing November 27, 2015 sailing from Galveston. We are looking into this sailing and will provide an update once we know more.

Disney Magic Fall 2015 Sailings

Barcelona, Spain Sailings

For some reason there is a gap between September 5th and September 18 for the Disney Magic following her last scheduled Mediterran cruise. This itinerary gap would allow for two additional 7-night Mediterranean cruises before the Transatlantic, but the Disney Magic requires an out if water hull inspection twice during a five year span, not exceeding 3 years. Based on this criteria and an estimated lengthy re-imagination of the Disney Wonder in 2016, it is likely (albeit unconfirmed) that the Disney Magic will return to Cadiz for the two week period. We did inquire about this itinerary gap with DCL, and were informed that they look forward to sharing information about these dates when the time is right for them to do so. The Westbound Transatlantic is scheduled for 11-nights and will end in Miami putting to bed any hopes of a return to the Southern Caribbean in 2015.

Miami, FL Sailings

In early October 2015, the Disney Magic will embark on a series of five-night western Caribbean cruises alternating between Grand Cayman and Cozumel with stops at Castaway Cay. From Miami, rates start at $480 per person for four-night cruises and $600 per person for five-night cruises for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Disney Fantasy Fall 2015 Sailings

Port Canaveral, Florida Sailings

One of the new itineraries that has flown under the radar so far is the seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy which swaps out St Maarten in favor of a new port of call for the Fantasy, Tortola. We have been anticipating this addition since Karl Holz signed a berthing agreement with the British Virgin Islands. The new itinerary is not listed on DCL’s website, but it is listed in the pdf (see image below) supplied to travel agents, which is included at the end of the article. It is not clear what DCL will name this itinerary, but for now I am listing it below as itinerary D.

UPDATE 5/20/2015 – Disney Cruise Line revised the PDF brochure overnight to remove any mention of Tortola. As a result, the previous sailings have been reverted to the itinerary A.

Update 5/22/2014 – Disney Cruise Line acknowledged that Tortola is an attractive cruise destination which they have called on in years past. However, at this time we do not have any scheduled calls in Tortola and do not have any further itinerary announcements to make.

Disney Dream Fall 2015 Sailings

Port Canaveral, Florida Sailings

The Disney Dream will continue to sail three and four-night Bahamian cruise to Nassau and Castaway Cay in the fall of 2015 from Port Canaveral. There is a significant itinerary gap for the Disney Dream starting on September 27, 2015 through October 15, 2015 which would allow for the Disney Dream to undergo her first ever dry dock. I did inquire with DCL on this itinerary gap, and like the Magic I was informed that they look forward to sharing information about these dates when the time is right for them to do so.

Detailed Itineraries

The updated 2014-2015 Disney Cruise Line Brochure (Updated May 2014) (first draft showing Tortola) contains a summary of the following information.

The website has been updated with detailed itineraries for each ship:

DCL did provide pricing information for select sailings, but this does not paint the full picture. Seriously… why fight for it then not even use it? I am so hoping for BVI as well. Honestly, I am not that impressed with these itineraries. I was hoping for something a little different… this sorta feels like a throw back.

Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE Disney and DCL. I am a platinum member and would pick them every time (in spite of the price) if their itineraries were on par. BUT, their Hawai’i cruises are probably the worst itineraries I’ve seen. Having 5 days in a row at sea because they’re sailing from Vancouver makes zero sense. I know they need an int’l port in there due to ship registry rules, but other lines using Ensenada make so much more sense. For my money, the best Hawai’ian cruise itinerary is still Norwegian’s Pride of America. None of the trans-Pacific mess, just two days on Maui, Hawai’i, and Kauai, starting and ending in Oahu.

I’m excited to see Tortola as a new stop, but agree with others that this seems a little regression from DCL. Mixing it up for all of us faithful repeat cruisers would be nice.

Leaving from Vancouver makes a lot of sense, since that’s where the Alaska cruises end in September. Other cruise lines (RCI and Celebrity in particular) do the same when they reposition between the South Pacific and Alaska. Ensenada is a terrible port to begin or end a cruise, as the passengers have to be bussed to/from San Diego. A roundtrip from LA has even more sea days for the same number of port days in Hawaii. You’re right that NCL Pride of America has the best Hawaii cruise itinerary, but a lot of DCL fans won’t go near NCL!

      Reply
      1. Drew

No no, not start/end in Ensenada. Most other lines start/end in LA/SD and stop in Ensenada. DCL could easily do their west coast reposition first, then sail for HI. And LA is a couple hundred miles closer to Hawaii than Vancouver is.

Not saying NCL is even in the same league as Disney. Just saying that if your desire is to see Hawaii by cruise ship, NCL is a better option. If I need both Disney and Hawaii, I’d spend a few days at Aulani and then either NCL or side trips to other islands.

I’m so disappointed about the WBTA date not matching up to the final Med of the season. This prevents so many of us from doing a B2B Med and TA!!! What’s going on with The Magic during those two weeks? It just underwent a huge renovation…surely it won’t be in dry dock again?!?

I can really appreciate your desire to have a B2B with the Med and TA. I am willing to bet it is far less expensive to cruise home as opposed to flying home from Europe. I hope this works out for you!

Why not bring back the Southern Caribbean routes? We wanted to do that this September of 2014 but due to having a newborn are unable. These are horrible itineraries. After anxiously awaiting this announcement for months, I guess we will have to book our cruise with someone else.

I went off the date DCL shows online, which listed 12/27. The 4-night sailing on 12/24 means the Wonder will not be back in Galveston until 12/28. Thanks for helping me clear this up.

Scott I was hoping to go to Tortola in October, after making my last reservation for 2015 in early April. If I book that first eastern Caribbean Tortola cruise, will I lose my discount and on board credit? I think I will miss it by a few weeks because going to Tortola starts the first week of November. What a bummer. I can’t win for losing………….

TORTOLA IS GONE! 🙁 I called and made my reservation this morning and CM said no Tortola on any of those sailings. When I told her the brochure released yesterday indicated Tortola she said she did not see anything. I booked anyway, then went back and looked at the brochure on the TA site…sure enough Tortola is no longer listed in it (and I do have a copy from the brochure released yesterday which I will be sending to DCL). So irritated and sad all at once. All my planning yesterday for nothing. 🙁

Tortola was pulled from the brochure early this morning, and the CM’s notified immediately. Itineraries change all the time. Why not keep the itinerary, and see if it crops back up again? You can always cancel and get full refund, if you decide not to sail. There most likely was nothing Disney could do about it at this time, which was why it was pulled.

What bothers me is that they released this information less than 24 hours ago. Why bother releasing it when it is not a done deal??? They should have not given Tortola out until it was set in stone. Makes the Caribbean sailings very ho-hum.

      Reply
  17. Marion

There are quite a few people involved when something goes to into a release (including the marketing involved) like that, and I’m sure that everyone thought it was a done deal. I do agree, I would love to see something new pop up in the Eastern Caribbean as well. I’m sure that whatever happened, there is a wonderful little story behind it, and if anyone will ferret it out, it will be Scott. (begins to imagine Dastardly Whiplash trying to tuck Tortola under his arm to steal it, and Scottly Do-right and his trusty Horse chasing after him to get answers.) *needs more coffee*

Was there any new info this morning on the 12/28 sailing out of Galveston? I booked it this morning thinking it was a 7 night, and it is showing up in my reservations on the DCL site as a 6 night. The itinerary tab for that reservation isn’t working, so I can’t confirm where the glitch is.

    Reply
    1. Jenny

Although I can’t see the itinerary, it does have the dates as 12/28 through 1/4, so that would be a 7 night. I think it might just be a system glitch (hopefully).

Well DCL is playing with our minds knowing that some people are trying to predict their every move. Scott has been doing an excellent job and these errors discredit his research and blog. For me he is still better than other blogs I’ve read in the past. I seen this coming a long time ago. Believe me things will get worse, just wait and see. To post one thing and change it immediately after is not good for business. This is not good for me and my family because as platinum’s members, we have never done another cruise line. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Walt, Sure DCL had Tortola listed in the brochure and it remains on their site map, but it was never listed as a sailing on the website or in the press release. This leads me to believe the brochure was finished before the final decision was made. Keep in mind, I am the one who included this itinerary based on the information in the brochure. Additionally, those 4 sailings were not on DCL’s site yesterday. I do not feel discredited on this considering there is a digital paper trail to follow from the signing of the berthing agreement that included 2015 calls to the original brochure. At the end of the day, DCL can do whatever they want.

      Reply
      1. Cindy

Not discredited at all. I lay the blame squarely on DCL on this one. Releasing a brochure less than 24 hours before opening up booking lines and then replacing that brochure overnight (quietly so)…yep, that is a DCL snafu. Not you Scott!

        Reply
        1. Scott Sanders Post author

I still do not see any reason to blame DCL. The brochure was clearly a mistake that was overlooked and was quickly corrected. The fact of the matter is they never said anything about Tortola in the press release or on the website. Decisions happen at the last minute all the time and some things fall through the cracks. I anyone needs to blame someone then please, blame me. I am the one who pushed Tortola leading up to the release and on Monday, not DCL.

          Reply
          1. Cindy Seaburn (@CindyInJax)

I pushed Tortola too as soon as I saw the brochure. Just wish DCL would have sent a blast at least to us agents saying something along the lines of “we published an incorrect brochure; here is the correct info.” Instead, many of us were left with egg on our face.

You are right though…most likely an innocent error on someone’s part over at DCL. I just needed a day to get over the fact I won’t be going to the little island after all. 🙂

DCL values Guest feedback from us. While I would not be surprised if they peruse this site (who wouldn’t!) feedback to DCL would really help Disney gauge how they respond in the future (or even offer an explanation as to what happened.) I highly recommend filling out the following form – it will be read and responded. https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/contact-us/ You may also write to them directly at:

Hi Ashley, on the Wonder I would not recommend an adult sleep on the sofa if they didn’t have to but if you have 3 adults in 1 room one of them will have to. I would recommend contacting an Authorized Disney Vacation planner for details on pricing. They are knowledgeable people that can help answer all your questions.

After dealing with the initial disappointment of Disney not returning to NYC in 2015 we decided to treat ourselves and booked the 12/23/2015 Christmas cruise on the Magic out of Miami. Fingers crossed that we don’t get bumped for a special charter!

Honestly why Disney doesn’t do Vancouver to Los Angelas, 3 day port then return is just crazy to me. They would get so many more bookings for families wanting a Disney Cruise mixed with 3 days at the Magic Kingdom then back to Vancouver from all over Canada flying into Van to take the trip! Bad marketing in my mind. We get Alaska and San Diego and 10 night Hawaii but no return with 5 days at sea. How dumb!
