Disney Cruise Line Announces Magical Summer 2015 Itineraries (May – August)

Its the dawn of a new day… After much anticipation, Disney Cruise Line released itineraries for the summer of 2015 for the entire fleet. Today’s release extends itinerary sail dates though August 2015, and will continue to allow guest to plan vacations at least one year out. Disney Cruise Line posted a teaser at the end of last week on their social media accounts stating, “we are charting a magical new course” which on the surface seems like typical Disney speak. However, if you have been following along the it is clear this was an official hint at what will be on the horizon for the Disney Magic and indeed the previous rumors of Iceland, Norway and the return to the Northern Europe are confirmed. The Disney Wonder will return to the west coast using San Diego as brief home port before summering in Alaska. The Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy will continue to sail Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries respectively.

Although the dates were announced today, booking will not being until March 26. On Wednesday, Platinum & Gold Castaway Club members will be able to call in or have their travel agents book sailings. On Thursday, Silver Castaway Club members as well as first time cruisers will be able to book. I mentioned this yesterday, but it is worth repeating… Please do not try calling today to book; this will just clog up the phone lines and bog down the reservation cast members. There may be people attempting to book an available cruise vacation today.

I did a quick poll on Twitter over the weekend to see if I should present the itineraries by cruise type or by ship. It was close to a unanimous decision, and itineraries by ship was the winner. Without further adieu, let’s take a closer look at the Disney Cruise itineraries for the summer of 2015 starting with their flagship, the Disney Magic.

Disney Magic | Summer 2015 Itineraries

Just as last week’s teaser implied, the Disney Magic will indeed chart a magic new course ~ beginning in May 2015, she will embark on a first of her kind Eastbound Transatlantic cruise from Port Canaveral to Copenhagen. The ‘magic’ lies in the ports of call. The 2015 EBTA sailing will leave Port Canaveral setting a course North to New York City, followed by a taste of Canada with a stop in St John’s, Newfoundland. The Magic will then spend three days at sea en route to Reykjavik, Iceland before continuing her passage south east past the Faroe Islands to Oslo, Norway before finally arriving in Copenhagen on May 30th.

When the Disney Wonder arrives in Vancouver, she will begin a series of 7-Night Alaskan cruises sailing on Mondays. There is a slight discrepancy in that the May 25th sailing is not currently on DCL’s website, but is listed in the new itinerary brochure. This could be a slight issue with the website, or the sailing may be on hold for a charter. If this is the sailing that you are interested in booking give it as try, but have a backup just in case. According to multiple reports on 3/26/14, the first Alaskan sailing (5/25/15) has been chartered.

It looks like we will have to wait a little longer for the rumored Hawaiian cruises, as those calls to Honolulu and Hilo were in mid- to late-September.

Disney Dream | Summer 2015 Itineraries

As expected, the Disney Dream will continue to sail the ever popular three and four night Bahamian cruises to Nassau and Castaway Cay. The Disney Dream will continue sailing from Port Canaveral with 4-night sailings departing on Mondays and 3-night sailings on Fridays for most of the summer. Most of the summer? That is right, with more open dates at Castaway Cay with the Magic & Wonder globetrotting, the Dream can have her pick at which days she will sail to Disney’s private island. With the arrival of peak summer vacation season in late-June, so will the return of the popular 5-night Bahamian cruise with not one, but two stops at Castaway Cay. To make room for the double dip sailings, the 3-night itinerary will not be a choice in July.

In August, the Disney Dream will resume her regular scheduled three and four night Bahamian cruises on Fridays and Mondays respectively.

Disney Fantasy | Summer 2015 Itineraries

In the early spring, the Disney Fantasy will be sailing exclusively all Eastern Caribbean cruises. With the Disney Magic no longer covering the Western Caribbean route, the Disney Fantasy will resume alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral. The significant change for the Disney Fantasy in May 2015 aside from resuming the Western Caribbean route will be the dropping of San Juan for St Thomas on the Eastern sailings and Costa Maya will be replaced with Falmouth, Jamaica on the Westerns.

So, there you have it – the 2015 Disney Cruise Line Summer sailings. Personally, I think Disney hit the nail on the head with a magical new course with regard to the summer for the Disney Magic. Which itineraries will you be booking?

The European cruise sound amazing. But, for large families who can’t afford the airfare to get there (2,000 per person) I do wish they opened up some other cruise options leaving from the US. We have done all the cruises out of the US ports and would love more options. Sad.

There is a 5-night repo between San Diego and Vancouver. Then May 25th, there is a 7-Night Alaskan cruise in the brochure, but this is not online. We will find out soon if this is just a mistake with the website or if this sailing is being held for possibly a charter. I say if you want to book that date try, but have a back up just in case.

To say that we’re disappointed would be a bit of an understatement in regard to the Magic and New York. The teaser video with the Statue of Liberty and New England seemed to suggest at least a limited number of dates out of New York. Bummer.

I would love to sail out of an East Coast City (excluding FL), NJ (the port is not in NYC), Baltimore or Norfolk would be great.

I don’t like starting and ending my trips with a body cavity search, they are not that Magical.

      Reply
      1. Dennis C

Don’t worry. No body cavity searches out of NYC. We sailed out of Vancouver this past summer and it was no different than sailing out of New York (which we’ve done three times). Show your passport or other I.D. at customs, drop off your luggage, check in and wait to board.

Hi Scott, So none of the itineraries up to August 2015 mention the Wonder going into dry dock to also be “re-imagined”. What are your thoughts on this happening in the Fall of 2015 for the Wonder? If she doesn’t the ship sent to Europe / Mediterranean for the Summer of 2015, then where might that dry dock take place? Just curious about your thoughts on this. Thanks!

    1. Scott Sanders Post author

Pam, DCL just ‘bought’ a few years (3 to be exact for her out of water hull inspection) by sending the Wonder to dry dock in January. DCL needs to be certain the Panama Canal expansion will be completed before they can re-imagine the Wonder otherwise she would be unable to sail to Alaska. An article in the Cadiz newspaper indicated the Disney Wonder would be refit in Cadiz when the time comes. Will this hold up? Only time will tell.

Thanks for all the great info. There is a mistake on the EBTA itinery that originated from DCL’s initial info. The stop in Canada is St. John’s Newfoundland as is shown on the map not St. John, NB as it says in the text of the itinery.

Can’t even get through. When I do, it’s asking for my CC number then disconnects me (I’m gold). It’s very frustrating. Disney has the worst technology – you’d think the system would be intuitive and allow you to log in and book if your status allows.

Walt, you can view the sailings on DCL’s website via Destinations, but not via their Search for Cruise booking feature. Like it or not the cost is based on supply and demand. Fares will not decrease if people continue to sail at these prices. Yes, the prices are unappealing, but they are running a business with a focus on the bottom line and as long as the numbers look good up the WDC chain of command to Iger then it will continue.

      Nigel,
I forgot to include the screenshot to discuss this sailing. It appeared in the itinerary brochure so I included the sailing on the list just in case it was bookable. I’ve added the following notes to the article along with a the screenshot. This very well could be a charter as is the case with the first Alaskan sailing. Based on past sailings, it is plausible that this could be a DVC Member cruise.

I see why they didn’t provide a price for the 7 night Dover repo, $1500 approx starting rate for a very poor itinerary. Not much more for a Panama Canal cruise if only the dates were doable. Not happy, probably going elsewhere in 2015.

I’m so excited to book my Alaska cruise tomorrow! It will be my 2nd cruise ever (1st was Nov 2013 on Fantasy). It just occurred to me that some of Scott’s wonderful followers who have been to Alaska might be able to assist me with 2 questions: 1) Do I want a room on Starboard or Port side?, and 2) What deck is best? I’m definitely booking a verandah category but don’t know if it is better to be lower/closer to the water, or higher, for better scenery viewing, or if it even makes a difference. Thank you so much! I love this blog. Everyday I look forward to seeing what is posted and reading everyone’s comments!

Truth be told it’s a win-win. Once you sail into the Inside Passage the views are just stunning regardless of what side of the ship you’re on. We prefer starboard (just something we’re used to and it’s great at Castaway Cay) and what we didn’t see sailing in we saw sailing out. I will say that when we sailed toward Tracy Arm Fjord we couldn’t have been more than 700 feet from the shore and when we left Skagway and Juneau the scenery was stunning (glaciers, light houses, etc.). The sun sets VERY late so there’s a lot to see.

As for your other question, we were on deck 7 aft. We found that while the rooms are a bit deeper on 8 the overhang from 9 partially obstruct the view (we were on 8 the year prior). Not a big deal sailing to the Bahamas but a bit more of a deal when sailing into Alaska.

And, yes, DEFINITELY get a verandah! You’ll spend a lot of time on it with so much to see.

When you get to Tracy Arm Fjord the best place to be is on deck 4. Everyone typically heads up to 9 and 10 to view the glacier but on 4 there are far fewer people and better opportunities for great pictures, character experiences and hot beverages.

You’re going to love every minute of it. Enjoy!

Thanks so much Scott for all the great information! After an hour and a half of hold-time, we booked Alaska for 2015 today for a large family reunion…would love it if you or your readers have tips on what not to miss in Alaska as this will be our first time. Thanks again for all your work to pull the information together for those of us waiting anxiously!

HELP – Anyone have an opinion on Inside Stateroom Decks 5, 6 or 7 or is it better to go with the Porthole Oceanview on Decks 1 or 2. Price is pretty similar. We’re headed out on the Med Cruise in August. Thanks in advance!

I would go with the deck 2 porthole, deck 1 has smaller windows. If the insides are cat 11 then they will be smaller than the cat 9 and have no split bathroom. If the price is considerably cheaper for an 11 b then go for a sideways room, but for a similar price I would get a deck 2 ocean view.

Yesterday, I booked the 12 night Northern Europe cruise that departs on July 10. Out of curiosity, today I checked the price online for the same itinerary and category of room and the price had gone up $576 over night! I guess that is called supply and demand.

Has there been any indication when the rest of 2015 will be available. We need to book for my husbands 50th and as are travelling from New Zealand need to organise it well in advance. We also have a dummy booking from our last cruise which we were told would be no trouble to change to then but we have to make a decision by April 14.We cant go earlier now as our daughter is getting married so all vacations are off this year.

Saw the prices for Summer 2015…very discouraging! I feel like Mickey is robbing us! At any rate, I was hoping for San Juan in July. Went ahead and booked the January 03, 2015 sailing to San Juan.

In other news or forecast, I believe that Disney will have some political pressure and not sail to Russia. They’re will be lots of angry Disney loyalists!!

DCL’s summer offerings tend to be a bit more exotic and, as with other cruise lines, prices run a bit higher during peak season. The real sticker shock tends to be the cost of airfare. Last summer our tickets on Air Canada were roughly half the price of the actual cruise. Disney spoiled me for 7 days, Air Canada gave me 10 hours in the air round trip and a couple of soft drinks.

    Hey Scott,

What happen to my post? Was my post not approved because I stated that Mickey is robbing us? Or, was I right about the future fate of the Port of Call in Russia where Disney will face political pressures? Come on Scott, allow those to state their opinions.

      Ruben,
Your previous comment was not moderated and it has been approved. It had more to do with the fact, I am now just getting around to all pending comments.

Honestly, there is not much Scott can do with how DCL is doing business. He can only give us the facts, which he has been doing excellent on. I do like how he tries to keep everything positive even though it can be difficult at times. I have come to the conclusion that times are getting difficult and the decisions we make will depend on our financial situations. Still as I have said in the past is I DO NOT think DCL will keep this present course long because if they do they will run away dedicated members that have been faithful to them for many years. So all we can do at this time is let this run it’s course and hope for the best in the future.

Scott – Any suggestions of where people chat about their upcoming cruise. I’m heading out on the Med Cruise in August 2015 (the 15th to be exact) and was hoping to connect with others from Minnesota before we go. I have one child (who will be 8 by the time we set sail) and would love for him to know some other kids before we depart. Thanks in advance!

      Jodi,
Both CruiseCritic.com & Disboards.com have cruise meet threads where you can meet some of the people you will be sailing with. Many of these meet threads extend to Facebook groups.

Given the Pilot whale slaughter that continues to occur in the Faroe islands, which is illegal to do by any European union member, the German Cruise ship company Aida has cancelled its three ships traveling there, about 6000 passengers. Does Disney have any plans to stop supporting these Islands as well?
