Disney Wonder Headed to Dry Dock in Freeport

The Disney Wonder departed PortMiami around 1:30 PM with a course set for Freeport, Bahamas where she will be out of service for the next 10 days as she enters dry dock. Not much is known about the Disney Wonder’s 2014 dry dock other than that she will receive her required out of water inspection as well as address routine and unplanned maintenance which was cited as the reason for the cancelation of two sailings in an email this past September.

Unlike her sister ship, the Disney Wonder will not be undergoing any major overhaul at this time. We reached out to Disney Cruise Line last week to inquire more about the Disney Wonder’s brief dry dock, and whether or not there would be any changes to guest areas, but at this time we have not heard back. Recent reports/rumors indicate the Disney Wonder may be re-imagined in 2015 with a newspaper article suggesting the same shipyard the Disney Magic used in 2013, Navantia in Cadiz, Spain.

Scott- Any further speculation about the summer 2015 itineraries? Do you think the Magic is going to do any Caribbean sailings in June/July before heading to Europe, or is it pretty certain she will be sailing to Europe in May? Thanks for all the work you do!!

The traditional crossing is in May, since the Mediterranean season starts very early in June, so I doubt the Magic will stay on the Caribbean later than mid-May. But that’s just my guess

Scott, I’ve gone on every ship. In my opinion the Disney wonder is the best. I would like to know what’s your favorite ship.

The Wonder has none of the updated items like the Disney Fantasy, like the AquaDuck…why do you think it is the best? We are contemplating Wonder cruise but after 2 sailings on Fantasy, feel that we will be disappointed because it is not as modern and smaller.

Smaller boat = less crowds at Castaway Cay. Been on the Magic, Wonder and Dream Castaway Cay is a different island when the smaller boats come in, absolute paradise! Also The Wonder has a subtle Little Mermaid Theme which my wife loves as opposed to the Magic’s Beauty and the Beast. I also love that the Wonder has called Miami home for the past few years, very convenient for me in South Florida and for family traveling from across the US.
